SHPA WELCOMES Jeffery Metzger Jr. Director of Policy & Advocacy
Jeff was born and raised in Illinois. He was an elected to 3 terms as a DeKalb County Commissioner for the 12th District, where he served as the Chairman of the Economic Development Committee. He has worked as a Government Affairs Director for the statewide trade association, for the U.S. Speaker of the House, and two Illinois State Treasurers. Jeff’s hobbies include performing magic and illusions. He lives with his best friend in the world, his dog Kramer. He is very excited to join the SHPA team.
Alexis Ritchie’s 32 year career started as a legal assistant/paralegal in the Metropolitan Chicagoland area. As a former member of the Illinois Paralegal Association and the Chicago Paralegal Association that includes five years of Pro bono work. Alexis continues to contribute to the legal community and now the field of human services by using her skills and talent to assist in serving low-income households. Alexis has served as a volunteer for Legal Aid of Chicago performing LINK/SNAP appeals. Alexis also served as an AmeriCorps volunteer in 2015 which led to full-time employment in human services industry as a case manager serving the homeless and those suffering from mental health. Alexis believes in serving others and has devoted much of her life to this work. Alexis Ritchie holds a. Master’s Degree in Public Administration with a concentration in nonprofit management from National Louis University – Chicago, Illinois. Alexis Ritchie is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success, the Chicagoland Evaluation Association, the American Society for Public Administration, Alpha Sigma Pi and the American Management Association.

The Illinois Department of Human Services has posted a Request for Information regarding SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recovery (SOAR) and they encourage and welcome your response. The Government Accountability Office said in a new report that the Social Security Administration saw a decline in benefit claims during the coronavirus pandemic - specifically disability claims and claims by vulnerable populations.
