  • Social IMPACT Research Center - The Social IMPACT Research Center with Heartland Alliance is leading a project focused on exploring current discharge and transition planning practices from DCFS and DJJ and how we as a state can better support youth to move towards housing stability post-transition.  The project is funded by SAMHSA and administered by DHS-SUPR. IMPACT’s approach is grounded in youth experience.  IMPACT is using a variety of data collection methods including national policy and practice scan, youth journey mapping, staff surveys and youth individual interviews to inform two different products: The first is a youth-driven electronic toolkit to support youth as they transition to independence. The second is a system map – for both DCFS and DJJ, with overlap- that visualizes system connections that should occur to support youth as they are transition from these institutions. This map will be accompanied by direct policy and practice recommendations.
We are hoping to identify with your help youth (18-24) who have recently left DCFS and/or DJJ (in the past two years) to participate in individual interviews to inform this project across the state of IL. Please see attached flyer for contact information. Feel free to share widely. Please reach out to Callie Kaplan ( for any project-related questions
