Our pool will be open ALL DAY during Christmas Break (now until January 5th) for lap and open swim.

Come in and work off those extra calories!

YOUTH PROGRAMS

WINTER SWIM LESSONS

The Fort Madison Family YMCA will hold winter swim lessons beginning January 6th, 2020. Lessons are available for all ages and include parent/child, group, semi-private and private classes. 

Registration is now open at the Fort Madison YMCA office during regular office hours. Please note class times will depend on class participation and are subject to change. Individuals interested in semi-private and private lessons please contact Noah Dean, Program Director, via email at Noah.dean@fortmadisony.org or call 319-372-2403 ext. 2 prior to registration for lessons. 

CLASSES:

Pre-K (3-5yr old) Classes held Thursdays from 4:30 to 5:15pm.
Develop comfort with underwater exploration and learn to safely enter and exit the water safe. Learn how to swim on front and back with assistance. This stage lays the foundation that allows for students future progress in swimming.
Registration fees: $25 Members, $40 Non-Members

Level 1 (6+ Years) Classes held Thursdays from 5:15 to 6pm & 6 to 6:45pm.
Students focus on body position and control, directional change, and forward movement in the water. Practice how to safely enter by stepping or jumping in from the side of the pool and front and back glide.
Registration fees: $25 Members, $40 Non-Members

Level 2 (6+ Years) Classes held Thursdays from 6:45 to 7:30pm.
Students learn how to swim to safety from a longer distance in previous levels. This stage students will learn how to jump into deep water, practice basic swim strokes, and learn safe diving techniques.
Registration fees: $25 Members, $40 Non-Members

Parent/Child (6mos – 3yr) Classes held Tuesdays from 4:30 to 5:00pm.
Accompanied by parent, infants and toddlers learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness skills through fun and confidence building experiences, while parents learn about water safety, drowning prevention, and the importance of supervision.
Registration fees: $20 Members, $25 Non-Members

Semi-Private (2-3 individuals) 
Semi-private swimming lessons must include 2 or 3 friends or family members. Personalized instruction for any age. Registration includes 5-30 minutes classes taught by Brooke Patton, our trained swim instructor. Lessons are assigned based on instructor availability.
•cancellations or rescheduling must be done 4 hours prior to the start of the lesson or participants will be charged for the class.
Registration fees (per person): $35 Members, $60 Non-Members

Private (All Ages Welcome)
Personalized instruction for any age. Registration includes 5-30 minutes classes taught by Brooke Patton, our trained swim instructor. Lessons are assigned based on instructor availability.

Registration fees (per person): $50 Members, $75 Non-Members

GYMNASTICS

(this is a three week session, registration fee is prorated)

Classes:
Preschool (4 year olds) 9-9:45am
Basic (5-6 year olds) 10-10:45am
Beginner (7-10 year olds) 11-11:45am
Intermediate (7-12 year olds) 12-12:45pm

Class Descriptions:

Preschool (4 years old) – 6 participants per class. This class will be 45 minutes in length. Participants will learn the basic gymnastic skills in a fun, structured environment. We will do the Hokey Pokey, forward and backward rolls, headstands, and handstands, and cartwheels. They will learn basic skills on the bar, balance beam, and vaulting box. We will be working toward enhancing balance, motor, and listening skills.

Basic (5-6 year olds) – 6 participants per class. This class will be 45 minutes in length. Participants will learn the basic gymnastic skills in a fun, structured environment. We will do the Hokey Pokey, learn the basic body positions, and then continue with forward and backward rolls, headstands, handstands, cartwheels. They will learn basic skills on the bar, balance beam, and vaulting box. Participants will learn skills in a progression.

Beginner (7–10 years olds) – 8 participants per class. This class will be 45 minutes in length. Participants will learn the basic gymnastics skills in a progression. The class will begin with the basic body positions, and then continue with forward and backward rolls, headstands, handstands, cartwheels and round offs. They will learn basic skills on the bar, balance beam, and vaulting box.

Intermediate (7–12 year olds) – 8 participants per class. Admittance by the permission of the instructor only. This class will be 60 minutes in length. This class is designed for the more advanced gymnast. Students will be tested on the following skills to gain admittance into this class; cartwheels, headstands, front and back limbers, back extensions, and round offs.

INTRO TO BALLET/TAP

Classes are held in the upstairs aerobics room at the Fort Madison Family YMCA. Parent Watch Week will be the very last class of each 5 week session where parents, aunts, uncles, and grandparents are invited to observe the class period and witness their dancer’s improvement.

Intro to Ballet & Tap is the perfect way to introduce children to the art of dance. Classes are broken up into two divisions; 
CLASS I – for boys and girls ages 3 and 4 years old, classes are held Tuesdays 4pm-5pm
CLASS II – for boys and girls ages 5 and 6 years old, classes are held Thursdays 5pm-6pm

Each class will be divided into 30 minutes of beginner ballet and 30 minutes of beginner tap.
Beginner Ballet: Focuses on increasing body awareness, gross motor skills, and phrasing while giving the dancer’s imagination time to flourish through fun and creative instruction. Dancers will learn the fundamentals of basic ballet vocabulary, steps, and positions including weight changes and proper positioning of their feet and arms. 
Beginner Tap: Focuses on the dancer’s development of balance, rhythm, style, and sound through creative movement as a group. Dancers will learn the fundamentals of basic tap dancing, body coordination, and working with fellow dancers as one.
Preferred dress code (not required): leotard, tights, ballet shoes, and tap shoes. Hair should be pulled back away from face and please avoid clothing that may distract your dancer.

Registration Cost: $25/Member, $50/Non-Member – per 5 week session
Registration Deadline: Monday prior to each 5 week session

Classes are limited to 6 dancers per 5 week session. A waiting list will be available to those interested but unable to register by deadline.

The Fort Madison Family YMCA is seeking donations for our new Tiny Tots Open Gym.
Tiny Tots Open Gym is being offered to area moms, dads, daycare providers, and caregivers to bring their Tiny Tots to the Y to play, burn off energy, and socialize with other Tiny Tots beginning in December. Please consider donating any new or used items from our wish list to help make this new program a reality for Tiny Tots in our area. Donations can be dropped off at the Y.

NEW CLASS ALERT
We're raising the bar when it comes to the classes we offer here at the Fort Madison Family YMCA!
Join us every Sunday for our new aerobics class! BARRE is instructed by Shawnna Williamson and is a hybrid workout class - combining ballet-inspired moves with elements of Pilates, dance, yoga and strength training. This class will incorporate a ballet barre  using classic dance moves such as plies, alongside static stretches and high reps of small range movements. Overall, this class aims to increase your flexibility, improve your durability, and boost your self confidence.
Classes will be held every Sunday. Time of class will be announced at a later date. 
Class is FREE for members. Trial fees are as follows: Youth – $5, College – $6, Adult – $10, Family – $15, and Senior – $3

Personal Training Sessions

PERSONAL TRAINERS

Shawnna Williamson

A personal trainer since 2002, Shawnna is certified in PiYo, Zumba and Les Mills Body Pump. She has taught step aerobics, circuit training, weight training and spinning. In addition, Shawnna is CPR/AED certified.

Dana Zumdome

A personal trainer since 2018, Dana is also a certified group fitness instructor and has completed her Advanced Personal Training certification through Fitour. She currently teaches our Tone-It class, and is CPR/AED certified.

Celebrate Your Child's Birthday at Our House and Leave the Details to Us! 

We have everything you need to have a great event. Party times are on Saturday or Sunday afternoons from 1-4 p.m., depending on seasonal schedule. Prices are based on 12 participants with a $5 charge for each additional participant.
 
Big Splash Pool Party 
This two hour party includes one hour in the pool during open swim times that includes use of inflatable pool toys and the pool basketball hoops followed by one hour in the child care center that allows for food, drinks, and games. Children under the age of 6 must be accompanied by an adult in the water. Parties over 12 participants require 2 adult supervisors.  
Cost: Members $100; Non-members $12 5 

Sports Gym Party 
This two hour party includes one hour in the gym that allows participants to play basketball, soccer, football or volleyball, followed by 1 hour in the child care center that allows for food, drinks and games. 
Cost: Members $ 7 5; Non-members $100
