CMM Minutes 20.02.2022

Please check the attendance record so that we know it is correct, and let Joy Steele know any errors.
I’ve had an amazing few days away at the New Wine Leaders conference up in Harrogate, along with Jodi and 3 other couples. The temptation to try and cram into one newsletter everything that God has stirred in my heart is overwhelming- but I’ll resist it- and give us the outlie of what its effect is for us as church. In short nothing… because I really strongly feel we’re on the right path. Lately we’ve seen the Spirit bless us greatly in worship, God has stirred up renewed conviction and determination in people to go deeper and more fully with God, we’re exploring His holy word and it’s igniting conversation, we’re seeing baptisms, conversions, convictions and growth- what a great and amazing God we have!
On the 13th March at 6pm we’ll take the next step forward in discerning together what melody God wants us to sing as a church and that will hopefully lead to us getting the instruments to play it. We’ll then start to learn His song and before long all be raising a hallelujah to the highest heavens as we see the Spirit of our Lord break out across Oakham, Rutland and to the very ends of the earth! Praise God!
One thing that I’d ask each of us is to commit. Commit more to prayer, more to each other, more to Jesus and more to church. Make gathering your weekly priority far above all other things. Make life together the expectation among us, and make your prayer life as central to your existence as the air in your lungs. If you aren’t a member, become a member, if you aren’t in a life group then get involved, if you only get to church once a month then ask is that good enough for a God who died for you? My total and sole desire is that each person connected to OBC is full of the Spirit. Just imagine each of us performing miracles and healing everyone we meet, prophesying and breaking out in tongues of praise spontaneously- that’s the aim, that’s what we’re going for- but you need to come with me- let’s see God do amazing and never known things with us.
Rest in His presence and be fired up by His Spirit you children of God.

Hearing God’s Voice: Ignatian Spirituality

Saturday 26th March 2022
10am to 4pm at Sacrista Prebend Retreat House

Is there a way of understanding how God communicates within our lives without falling into the glib and the super-spiritual? What if we could learn from an ancient Christian tradition with spiritual discernment at the heart of its spirituality? The Ignatian tradition, which emphasizes contemplation in the midst of action, provides such an opportunity. One of the strengths of this approach is the activity of our lives is the focus for discerning God in everyday life. So, it is a form of spirituality especially suited to those called to an active, busy lifestyle.

This teaching day reflects on the wisdom of this tradition and provides space for conversation and sharing insights around this theme, as well as opportunity to practice some spiritual exercises. Whilst personally focused, this seminar has implications for how we hear God’s voice together in church life.

Stephen Ibbotson, before retirement, was a Baptist minister with 40-years experience in church-based ministry. He was actively involved in church planting, faith and culture movements in his earlier ministry. Later in his ministry he developed an interest in spirituality and the formation of our inner-life. Now in retirement Stephen offers spiritual accompaniment and leads retreats together with his wife Helena.

Tickets £20 includes drink, materials. Bring packed lunch.

Hello Church
We have been busy behind the scenes at Oakham and Rutland Life Skills over the last month.  I was interviewed by CAP in February for the role of Life Skills manager and am happy to report I was successful. DBS forms have been filled in and the administrative tasks have been completed ready for the life skills coaches and I to start training on 21st March. Can you please hold us all in your prayers as we begin the training; pray that we find the time and space to complete all the training modules and that we are filled with a renewed sense of passion.   The training will run from 21st March – 6th May (with a break over Easter).  This means that we will be ready to begin running the Life Skills course in the summer. How exciting!!
There will be many opportunities to volunteer as we begin running the life skills course – from befriending to refreshments – if getting involved with Life Skills is something God is putting on your heart, please get in touch.

So if you are able, please make every effort to come.
We will be praying from 9.30am to 10am in the back room.
See you there!
