CLC in Metro New York Newsletter
"Following Jesus into a loving, liberating, life-giving relationship with God, each other, and with the earth" - Episcopal Presiding Bishop Michael Curry

This week marks two significant events with the guilty verdict of Derek Chauvin for the killing of George Floyd and for observance of Earth Day and the urgent need to Care for Our Common Home.  Let us pray that God strengthens us to cleanse our land of the evil of racism and violence of all kinds.  We pray for conversion of hearts and for justice that supports loving care for all peoples, and especially the most vulnerable, with care for all God's creation. Creator God, hear our prayer!

In this issue we invite you to consider joining the 21-Day Catholic Environmental Justice Challenge, a Spring Garden Clean-up at Loyola Jesuit Center, and the 19th Annotation of the Spiritual Exercises.

Environmental Justice Challenge:
April 23 to May 16
At our last CLC Leadership Meeting for Metro New York Region, we confirmed our regional mission of Caring for Our Common Home. With diverse circumstances by geography, needs, interests, skills and availability, each local group discerns how best to engage this focus along three possible lines of response: Awareness, Action, and/or Advocacy.  This 21-Day Environmental Justice Challenge offers a timely way to do just this!  It is co-sponsored by the Ignatian Solidarity Network, the Jesuit Conference Office for Social Justice and Ecology, as well as the Global Catholic Climate Movement, Catholic Climate Covenant and the Sisters of Mercy.  You can sign up to receive daily emails with educational resources on environmental justice issues along with prayer resources and action tools.

19th Annotation of the Spiritual Exercises August 2020 to May 2021

As Jesuits and the Ignatian Family around the world prepare for the 500th Anniversary of St. Ignatius conversion, CLC USA will offer the 19th Annotation of the Spiritual Exercises to members of CLC across the country August 2020 to May 2021. We are fortunate to have a team of CLC members experienced in both spiritual direction and the Spiritual Exercises to coordinate this program for us. The program will consist of monthly virtual presentations, monthly small group meetings, and weekly one-on-one sessions with a spiritual director or companion.  The cost is $250.  If interested, apply by June 15th.   It is also possible that if your whole group is interested, you can meet together as a small group during that monthly small group meeting to share on the graces of your experience.  Otherwise, you can join a group with CLC members around the country.   If you have any questions, please contact Ann Marie Brennan at annmariebrennan@yahoo.com.

Save the Date:
July 31st Feast of St. Ignatius!

For this very special occasion, we are beginning to plan an event at which we can observe this day!  We would also like to welcome and introduce many of our new members which has been difficult to do during these pandemic times .  It's likely this will be a morning virtual event.   If you have ideas for this event and/or would like to help in some way, please contact Mary Ann Cassidy or Ann Marie Brennan!
