"The greatness of a community -is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members." Coretta Scott King
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for the love, care, and dedication you have given towards the Because You Care campaign to build the Stratford Perth Rotary Hospice.
The response to our inaugural Community Update newsletter, mailed out in December, is nothing short of heartwarming! To date, we have processed almost $80,000 in donations as a result. While we still have more to raise, this takes us a giant leap forward in reaching the goal of $8.5 million. Thank you!!
The building is now enclosed and with the guidance of our interior designer, finishes for floors, walls and ceiling have been selected. The David Barenberg (West) Wing along with the East Wing are starting to take shape with completed electrical, data and security rough-ins as well as installation of HVAC and fire sprinkler lines. Drywalling will begin this week! The second-floor has also been framed.
It's a very busy and exciting time for Volunteer Services. While our visiting hospice volunteers continue to support our clients living in the community with a life-limiting illness, we are quickly building our volunteer base for the residential hospice with over 130 people interested in helping. This includes a screening process, orientation and essential training to prepare for our first admission in late spring. Thanks to everyone who have expressed an interest in volunteering and whether your role is big or small, you’ll be making a tremendous difference for the families that come through our hospice doors.
“Between us, we have lost three grandfathers and we’ve seen the value of hospice care at the end stage of life,” comments Chris. “Supporting the campaign to build the Stratford Perth Rotary Hospice is a way for us to help others have the same care our families experienced.”
As a Firefighter with the Stratford Fire Department and a member of the Sebringville Volunteer Fire Department, Chris has dealt with death and grief from both the personal and professional level. Nadine is a physiotherapist who, after working in a local clinic, now works at University Hospital in London with palliative patients as part of her caseload. When they got married this past fall it just made sense to them that they incorporate a way to raise funds and awareness for the Because You Care campaign. In Nadine’s words, “we decided that if our guests wanted us to kiss at the reception, they’d have to make a donation!” What a fun way to raise funds, and we could not be more grateful.
Chris and Nadine recognize the value of having a hospice close to home. They care because they believe that when we look out for each other – whether that be our partner, parent, friend, neighbour, or colleague – and each do our own small part, we are stronger as a community.
On this Valentine’s Day we send our heartfelt thanks for the tremendous support we have received to date! Just like the Croziers, your care and commitment are helping build a home that will be filled with love.
