Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday!

After the shopping frenzy of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, we hope you will consider a gift to the Lights of Love Holiday Campaign which officially kicks off tomorrow, November 29 - Giving Tuesday!

Dedicate a Light of Love to remember a loved one, or as a gift for the family member who has everything, and know your gift ensures that those who call Rotary Hospice home will be wrapped in love and light this holiday season.

Dedication messages will be recognized online and as part of the Lights of Love Lighting Ceremony on Wednesday, December 7th at 7pm. Last year's messages of love can be found here
Dedicate a Light of Love
Lights of Love Lighting Ceremony: you're invited!

On Wednesday, December 7th at 7pm, please join us as we remember loved ones and honour those in our care. The evening will include music, hot chocolate, readings, and a candlelight procession with time for quiet reflection.

Please gather under the Pavilion on the Greenwood Court property, across from our hospice parking lot, and please -- dress for the weather! Please also consider parking on Greenwood Drive or Norwood Court.

Our sincerest thanks to sponsors Soup Surreal, Bill & Lynn Whittemore, and Sue & Al Wakelin.

For board member and sponsor, Sue Wakelin, "this year's event will take on an even more special meaning for us as we honour our forever friend Kim Chilton and encircle her Stratford family, especially her Mom Ermythe Moorehead, with light and love during the holiday season."

- You don't just lose someone once -

You lose them over and over,
sometimes many times a day.
When the loss, momentarily forgotten,
creeps up,
and attacks you from behind.
Fresh waves of grief as the realization hits home,
they are gone.
You don’t just lose someone once,
you lose them every time you open your eyes to a new dawn,
and as you awaken,
so does your memory,
so does the jolting bolt of lightning that rips into your heart,
they are gone.
Losing someone is a journey,
not a one-off.
There is no end to the loss,
there is only a learned skill on how to stay afloat,
when it washes over.
Be kind to those who are sailing this stormy sea,
they have a journey ahead of them,
and a daily shock to the system each time they realize,
they are gone,
You don’t just lose someone once,
you lose them every day,
for a lifetime.

Handbags for Hospice was another hit!

On October 27th, over 200 guests and volunteers gathered in person at the Stratford Country Club to participate – alongside online guests – in the 4th annual Handbags for Hospice fundraising event. Year over year, the support for this event continues to grow and this year was no exception! As always, Layne the Auctionista brought the energy to both the room and the screen helping to raise just over $100,000. Wow!

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. This success would not be possible without the tremendous support of so many dedicated supporters.

The event was proudly sponsored by Presenting Sponsor Amanda Hansford and Peter Hansford of BMO Nesbitt Burns, as well as, Golden Ticket Sponsor, Industrial Contracting Solutions, and Diamond Sponsors, Magest Group, Vancea Financial Group, Usborne & Hibbert Mutual Fire Insurance Co., Deck Dentistry , Romeo Optometry and GC Financial Solutions Group and Entertainment sponsors Andrew L. Hodges Funeral HomeRE/MAX a-b Realty and Swanson's Jewellers. New this year, our Wine Wall sponsors: Illume Wellness Spa and The Flower Shop and More. Our sincerest thanks also to our Live Auction donors: Robert Bryan, RBC Wealth Management; John & Kathy Lewis; Rob & Sharon Staffen; Kert & Julia Coffey, and friends; Elaine Strawbridge and Strawbridge Tools; Author, Terry Fallis; and WestJet.

More than 100 auction items - ranging from handbags to jewelry, household items, cottage and spa getaways - were generously donated by local businesses and individuals. You can view the full listing of the many incredible donors here!

More than 100 bottles of wine were generously donated by community members to be sold at the Wine Wall! Guests enjoyed musical performances by Janna Leduc & Friends.

Though the focus of the evening was on handbags, video testimonials reminded guests of the important role Rotary Hospice plays for those in our area. You can view photos from event night and the full, livestreamed event here.

It is thanks to all of our sponsors, donors, guests and supporters like you, that Handbags for Hospice continues to achieve such a resounding success and have such an impact on those who call Rotary Hospice home.

Lastly, a huge thank you to this year's amazing Handbags for Hospice volunteer committee: Katherine Hahn; Kelley Jacobs; Katharine Lewis; Shannon MacDonald; Kerry Ramsay; Julia Simpson; Sharon Staffen; and, Marg Van Nynatten.

Once again, thank you all.

Donating stock: an option for year-end giving

Since the early days of the capital campaign to build Rotary Hospice, several donors have made their gifts by transferring stock in lieu of cash.

For many, this means they are not taking money from their day-to-day budget, instead the stocks would be part of their savings portfolio. By transferring the stock (and not cashing it out), the donors are able to gain added tax benefits.

We remain tremendously grateful to our brokers, Amanda Hansford and Peter Hansford of BMO Nesbitt Burns, who continue to process these donations at no charge.

To learn more please contact Lucie Stuart, Director Fund Development and Stewardship, at 519.508.4900 x720 or . A copy of our Stock Transfer Form can be found on our website. Please also speak with your financial advisor.
