Moments that mattered this summer...

For many, the hot days of summer mean a slower, quieter pace. For staff, board, and volunteers of the new Rotary Hospice, this past summer was a busy yet rewarding time:

  • Our first Hospice resident moved in July 3rd and to date, the clinical care team have cared for a total of 18 individuals
  • Our kitchen volunteers have baked up more than 1,500 yummy treats – all free for residents and guests
  • Landscaping is near completion and is adding a more welcoming and home-like sight for residents, visitors and staff
  • One of our residents held a Princess Tea Party in their room for their granddaughters (photos below)
  • Tickets for our inaugural Handbags for Hospice fundraiser on October 24th sold out!
  • Monday, July 22 saw the Festival hockey team take on our Hospice community team all in the name of fun and fundraising at The Spirit Within Hockey Game. To the players, silent auction and food donors, volunteers, and attendees – thank you for helping raise $3000!
  • This year’s Wicked Ride Perth/Huron Counties – an all-day, cross county, all-women’s motorcycle adventure – was held August 14th with proceeds supporting Rotary Hospice! Kudos to the organizers, supporters, and all the participants in pink!
  • Did you noticed our highway billboards as you entered and left Stratford this summer?  Our thanks to Peter Maranger, The Co-Operators!
Calling all aspiring cookie decorators (and eaters)!!
Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Week, Sept. 16-22

Again this year, we are thrilled that Smile Cookie sales at the three Stratford Tim Hortons locations will support the capital campaign pledge made by our local owners towards the Refreshment Station in our Hospice. If you've been in the house, you'll know this is an area where family and friends can help themselves to tea, coffee and a snack at no cost, anytime of day or night. It’s one more way of making The Hospice feel like home.

Last year’s Smile Cookie sales surpassed all expectations – raising over $18,000! (that’s 18,000 Smile Cookies!). This year we hope to surpass that but we need your helping hands!

We are looking for volunteers to assist with decorating the smile cookies (putting the eyes and smile on with icing).  For full details, simply click this link to find a date/time that works with your schedule. Be sure to include your email and phone number in case there are last minute changes.

Pre-order a box of Smile Cookies for your workplace, event, or organization!  Be sure you allow 48 hours notice!
A few things to note:
- You do not need to be a registered Hospice volunteer to sign up!
- Children over the age of 12 are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.
- Closed toe shoes are mandatory.
- This job requires you to stand and squeeze a bottle or piping bag... a lot. Please keep this in mind if you have any physical limitations.
Did you know...that fresh baked snacks and soup are always available for residents and visitors?

For residents with an appetite, our Kitchen Coordinator and talented volunteers also prepare a daily menu that can be enjoyed in the dining room or served in their room by a direct support volunteer. All of this is provided at no cost - though donations of grocery gift cards are always welcome!

A homemade meal is just one more way of making our Hospice feel more like home.
Our sincerest thanks...
