Moments That Mattered...

  • Sincerest thanks to the Rotary Club of Stratford for their continued support and for their annual campaign pledge of $30,000. A portion of these funds were raised from Catch the Ace - thanks to everyone who played!
  • Family sharing the little moments in life are really what's most important. Outdoor patios, pedicure, conversations. Who doesn't appreciate being pampered by family!
  • Our Clinical Care team leader spoiling the Care Team with sundaes in celebration of National Strawberry Sundae Day
  • Our robot cat, Whiskers doing what this cat does best - sharing love and comfort with one of our residents
  • Goodbye to a founding Hike for Hospice organizer, Cathy Wyse who moved back to her home province of Newfoundland. As an original steering committee member Cathy spearheaded the annual Hike for Hospice in Perth County, years before Rotary Hospice opened
  • A generous donation of wood from Akins-Brewer Lumber that, with the help of our volunteers, has become a beautiful herb and vegetable garden to grow fresh produce for our residents to enjoy
  • A special farewell to retiring Greenwood Court Executive Director, Joyce Penney. A tree plaque has been placed in recognition of her early efforts and commitment to make the vision of our hospice residence a reality

Guess Who's Back?

It's with great enthusiasm and joy that we welcome back our volunteers! Besides a short stint last fall, we've not seen our volunteers since March of 2020 and to say they've been missed would be an understatement. Volunteers are an integral part of any hospice care team. They provide practical support like reception, meal prep, baking, and administrative tasks, along with compassionate support to residents, clients and their families, both at the hospice and in our community. Volunteers bring vibrancy to the halls of our hospice residence and their contribution is invaluable. As of August 3rd, we have been so grateful to have our reception and kitchen volunteers back in the hospice and can't wait to phase in the rest of our volunteer team.
Interested in volunteering or want to learn more? We have a variety of roles and shifts to fit every kind of person and schedule. To discuss available opportunities, contact Katie Jervis, Coordinator of Volunteers at or 519-508-4900 x730.

Handbags For Hospice

The Handbags for Hospice Committee is thrilled to share that this year's 3rd Annual Handbags event, is once again presented by Amanda Hansford & Peter Hansford of BMO Nesbitt Burns. The event will be hosted in hybrid style at the Stratford County Club on Thursday, October 7th at 7:00pm.

As one of our signature fundraising events, this inspiring evening will be led by two well known former radio hosts, Judy Maddren and Eddie Matthews, along with the return of The Auctionista who ignites the audience with their signature high octane style.

Event details and ticket sales to be announced in the next few weeks. Be sure to watch our social media for event updates, ticket sales and the many handbags curated to appeal to the fashionista in all of us!

It's an evening of handbags, experiences, friends, fun and fundraising, all in honour of loved ones facing end-of-life yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Bird Feeders Built For Hospice

The five bird feeders pictured here were handcrafted by one of our volunteers with repurposed wood and generously donated to our hospice residence. Troy volunteers at Rotary Hospice in a “handyman” capacity, assisting with odd jobs around the house - he sure made this specific project look easy!

Paired with the creative talent of his wife Wendy (who volunteers in our kitchen!) these two have created these beautiful feeders to hang in our gardens. Not only do they serve as lovely decorative accents to our outdoors, they also attract many beautiful birds.

These new bird feeders beautifully complement our existing birdfeeders, also handcrafted locally by the shop and art class students from Stratford District Secondary School.

The residents, their families, and even staff will experience a healing distraction seeing the birds flit around these feeders. A subtle reminder in the joy of life's simple pleasures.

Life's Simple Pleasures

I asked a friend who has crossed age 70 and is heading towards 80 what sort of changes he is feeling in himself.  He sent the following advice:

  • After loving my parents, my siblings, my spouse, my children and my friends, I have now started loving myself
  • I have realized that I am not “Atlas”. The world does not rest on my shoulders
  • I have stopped bargaining with vegetable & fruit vendors. A few pennies more is not going to break me, but it might help the poor fellow save for his daughter’s school fees.
  • I leave my waitress a big tip. The extra money might bring a smile to her face. She is toiling much harder for a living than I am.
