You deserve to be well looked after...
With Mother’s Day approaching, we want to extend our best wishes to all the mothers who – through all life’s up and downs - are always there to lend a listening ear, give a comforting hug, or serve up a favourite meal. For those missing their mothers, may you find comfort in happy memories.
We often receive messages of thanks from loved ones of hospice residents. They are a welcome reminder of the important role Rotary Hospice plays in our community. In honour of Mother’s Day, the Landreth family gave us permission to share the following message:
Our family was so thankful of the care my mother-in-law, Florence Landreth, received at Rotary Hospice. It made me reflect on my own mother’s death in 1986 from ovarian cancer. As a registered nurse and only child, I felt a tremendous obligation to care for her while juggling my young family. Had there been a hospice, I could have been her daughter and not her caregiver.
So, when my mother-in-law’s health began to decline and the hospice was recommended, we told her, “Florence, you deserve to be really well looked after.” It was the best decision; we all felt embraced in care.
On Sunday, June 6th I will Hike for Hospice in memory of my mother, my mother-in-law, and all the other mothers who deserve to be well looked after at the end of their life. Please consider doing the same! ~ Jane Landreth (daughter-in-law, daughter, wife, mother, retired nurse, and Rotary Hospice supporter)
In the words of Dame Cicely Saunders, founder of modern-day hospice palliative care, “you matter because you are you, and you matter until the end of your life”.
