Overview of upcoming work as of June 18, 2019

Starting as early as Wednesday, June 19, the contractor will return to the corridor to complete remaining items on the final project checklist. Work may include the following activities:
  • Electrical work for pedestrian signals
  • Landscape restoration in some planting strips
  • Drainage and manhole maintenance
  • Curb ramp replacements or retrofitting
  • Additional concrete work on curbs and sidewalks, as needed
For those of you that have been following construction for this project since the beginning, you may wonder why we are replacing curb ramps that were recently installed. While many of the new curb ramps appear accessible, some of them do not meet the strict American with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations and requirements. These design standards are an important part of this project and ensure that all people have the proper accommodation to travel throughout the city.

What to expect during remaining work

The remaining work will primarily take place throughout the corridor on sidewalks, curb ramps and planting strips. During work, people traveling on 35th Ave NE between NE 45th Pl and NE 89th St can expect:
  • Typical work hours: Monday – Saturday 7 AM to 7 PM
  • Detours for people walking: For your safety, please follow detour signs near work zones
  • Traffic lane shifts: 1 lane of traffic in both directions will be open at all times.
    • Uniformed police officers (UPOs) and flaggers will direct traffic around the work areas, as needed
    • Turns may be limited to and from intersections while crews work on curb ramps
  • Parking restrictions: On-street parking will be restricted near active work areas to provide a safe space for crews to work
