“Trail Running” seems to be one of those things that’s loosely defined and can encompass a pretty wide variety of things. Trail runner and mountain athlete extraordinaire Kilian Jornet shared a proposal (can be found on mtnath.com) that attempted to categorize trail races on 3 axes: distance, technicality, and elevation. This categorization can be helpful for race organizers and participants from a safety perspective in competitions, but it’s also a helpful way to frame training and preparation for personal goals on trails and in the mountains.
On the Runcation Travel website you can now find grades for our different Runcations based on technicality and difficulty, minimum and maximum elevation of the different trips, and overall mileage. Check it out on the Runcation.org FAQs!
