Firstly, and most importantly I hope that you and your families are well. I have delayed writing until now to avoid you being inundated with communications from the College as the Coronavirus pandemic has unfolded.
I would like to remind you of all the communications that have been sent out; updates from the Principal, information on claiming Free School Meals and information regarding childcare and any updates regarding exams and the Year 11 update this can all be found on the College Website:
Many of you will also have been contacted by either Mr Harling or myself over recent weeks, and in one way or another we will continue to be in touch with you all.
As I am sure you are aware the College will be closed until further notice and as a result we will all need to learn to work in different ways. Although for Year 11 students there is little in the way of curriculum, students still have access to the various online platforms that have been used throughout Key Stage 4. There is also work on the College website that would be suitable to complete, especially in preparation for transition into year 12. http://sjhcsc.co.uk/students/homework
I have asked all tutors to make contact with parents of students in their tutor groups over the next week to find out how everyone is coping and to deal with any home learning issues that may have arisen. In the meantime if you would like to get in touch with them yourself then feel free to email them:
During this period of College closure maintaining engagement in learning and developing independent study skills will help in the transition from Year 11 to wherever it is the students are now heading. Students may decide to continue to work through academic resources on our website or may wish to look at other learning opportunities online. For those of you in need of support regarding joining the VI Form at Sir John Hunt information can be found here: http://sjhcsc.co.uk/parents/letters-home
If you need any help or support all of our teacher’s email contacts can be found at:
To enable myself, Mr Harling and the pastoral team to keep in touch and publish information and resources more easily I have set up a Year 11 Google classroom. Students in Year 11 should be familiar with using this platform as over the year you would have used it in College. This is an excellent forum for students to ask any questions regarding issues they have faced during this unique time.
The class code you need to join the Year 11 Classroom is: kmajo64
Please can you share this communication with your son / daughter so we can keep in touch with them directly moving forward.
On a personal note I have been thinking about you all and I hope everyone is safe and well. I was very sad not to finish Year 11 in the normal celebratory fashion. With this in mind the planned date for the Year 11 Prom has had to be postponed. We intend to reschedule the Year 11 prom so that we can give our Year 11 students the send off they deserve. We are unable to book a date until we know it will be safe to arrange such an event but we will update you as soon as we can.
Please look after yourselves and if you need any support, advice, or just want to chat to someone please let us know and either myself or Mr Harling will get in touch.
Take care and I look forward to “seeing” the Year Group in the Google classroom!
