Year 12 online learning and resources
Dear Year 12 students,

Year 12 are an extremely important year group and we have been hugely impressed with your work ethic and dedication since the beginning of their courses in September 2019.  As a group, you have made a very positive and promising start to your sixth form studies.

While the school remains closed, we have instructed teaching staff to continue to provide online learning and resources for the foreseeable future.

Year 12 A level and BTEC courses;

Please check the college website and the homework pages (including Google Classroom where relevant) for the weekly home learning and independent study you will be set.  For each subject you are studying at KS5, there will be regular updates of the work you are required to complete. This will be broken down into manageable ‘chunks’ which you be able to complete and we have provided a suggested timetable (below) for how you can structure your weekly learning.

It is important that you maintain good working routines and that learning is ‘spaced’ throughout each week in an orderly manner.   It is also important that you take regular breaks, eat well and exercise when possible and safe to do so (in line with government and NHS guidance).

It is important that Year 12 students continue to work on coursework and assignments and subject teachers will continue to set work to help you keep up with any coursework / assignments linked to your chosen subjects.

Year 12 Vocational courses:

If you are a vocational student or at a Training Provider we will expect you to follow any online work and resources provided by the Training Provider and we advise that you anticipate course extensions for your learning to be completed when the first year of courses/study as and when normality resumes.

Training Providers, like our teachers at SJH, are working hard to provide regular updates and resources for your chosen courses.

In addition to the weekly resources and activities set for A levels, BTEC and vocational courses, the following websites also provide useful resources for KS5 students who are retaking Maths and/or English GCSEs or Functional Skills.

Year Maths and English GCSE retakes:

Subject teachers will be able to respond to any questions or queries via email and we would encourage all students to maintain good study habits and routines while schools remain closed. If you are studying courses at one of our partner schools, please use the same methods and support which will be updated in the same way as subjects delivered at SJH.

2020 Examinations:

Some of you were due to sit Year 1 exams this summer.  As all examinations have been cancelled as part of the government’s response to the coronavirus, these will not be able to take place as planned in May/June as planned.  However, these exams will now take place in the 2021 exam season and, as a college, we will make sure you have the best support possible in their preparations between now and then.

In the meantime, you will need to continue with work which is being provided by your subject teachers; please be reassured that you will able to sit these exams at a later date.

We understand how unsettling this situation and these sudden changes have been so it is extremely important that we all maintain good study and working routines.  Please be assured that we will continue to work tirelessly to support you and that you will be not be disadvantaged in any way by this interruption to your normal studies.

Yours faithfully

Mr J Dunkerley
Assistant Principal
Head of Sixth Form
