Year 10 update
Dear Parents/Carers,

Firstly, and most importantly I hope that you and your families are well. I have delayed writing until now to avoid you being inundated with communications from the College as the Coronavirus pandemic has unfolded.

I would like to remind you that all the communications that have been sent out, including the Year 10 update, cancellation of work experience, information on claiming Free School Meals and advice regarding those of you who were meant to be doing exams this summer can all be found on the College Website: http://sjhcsc.co.uk/parents/letters-home

As I am sure you are aware the College will be closed until further notice and as a result we will all need to learn to work in different ways. Please refer to the College website under Students- Homework and then respective subjects and the corresponding year 10 group to find out the work that will be set each week. http://sjhcsc.co.uk/students/homework

Many teachers will start to adopt a number of online platforms to help with distance learning and full instructions on how to access these can be found in the respective subject areas above. I have asked all tutors to make contact with parents of students in their tutor groups over the next week to find out how everyone is coping and to deal with any home learning issues that may have arisen. In the meantime if you would like to get in touch with them yourself then feel free to email them:
I would like to reiterate the message that Ms Williams expressed in her Year 10 academic update that it is vital to maintain the momentum of effort we have seen from students in College whilst learning from home. This is especially important for Year 10, as at present, the exam boards have not reduced the amount of content we need to cover for the final GCSE exams next summer. While it is fantastic if parents and guardians can support learning I would expect most students to be more than able to work independently. If you need any help or support all of our teacher’s email contacts can be found at: http://sjhcsc.co.uk/our-college/meet-the-staff

To enable myself, Ms Bloomfield and the pastoral team to keep in touch and publish information and resources more easily I have set up a Year 10 Google classroom. Students in Year 10 should be familiar with using this platform as this is the same method that Science are using (A full guide can be found on the Science homework page).

The class code you need to join the Year 10 Classroom is: 354eqdl

Please share this communication with your son/daughter so we can keep in touch with them directly moving forward.

On a personal note I have been thinking about you all and I hope everyone is safe and well. Please look after yourselves and if you need any support, advice, or just want to chat to someone please let us know and either myself or Ms Bloomfield will get in touch. You can telephone 01752 581605 – “Option 1” for Year 10. Please note that there is no answerphone function so if you can’t get through please follow up with an email.

Take care and I look forward to “seeing” the Year Group in the Google classroom!

Yours faithfully

Mr Carpenter
