Wesleyan Mission Haiti
1942 - 2018

Larry and Marty Grimes, hailing formerly from South Carolina and now living in north Georgia, have served in Haiti since 2011 in various capacities, for varying lengths of time. Based on the island of La Gonave as GONET Volunteers, they instructed adults from Anse a Galets and surrounding villages in English and beginning computer in 2012 and 2013.  In following years, they spent periods of time welcoming and shepherding short term missions groups, teaching in other areas and lastly teaching in the initial semester of the Wesleyan University of Haiti,
College of Nursing Sciences, the nursing school on La Gonave at the Wesleyan hospital.  Larry taught Introduction to Computers, and Marty taught Bible and thinking skills.  Additionally, Larry taught Introduction to Statistics to third year students in the summer of 2017.
During their time of service, they developed both a love for the Haitian people and also a deep respect for the missionaries and their work through the years.  This interest was further focused during a missionary retreat when Joy Irvine asked if Marty would collect information about The Wesleyan Church’s work in the island nation through the years.  The rest is history – and that history has blossomed into the book Wesleyan Mission Haiti.

The book highlights the development of the Wesleyan presence in Haiti beginning with the arrival of Rev. & Mrs. Neal Bonner and their son Stanley in early 1945 and continuing for 73 years.

Copies of the book will be available at The 100th Annual God’s Holiness Grove Camp Meeting which will be held July 20-28, 2019, at the Central Pennsylvania Wesleyan Campground near New Columbia, PA. and at the Seyfert Family Camp August 3-11, 2019, near Birdsboro, PA.  The special camp meeting price is $5.00.

The books can also be ordered from Amazon for $12.50.
