Haiti Update - July 2021
COVID part 2               October Trip

For the past year and a half Haiti has held our attention and has been blessed by the generosity of many who have responded to several requests for financial support. Examples range from payroll assistance for the mission station employees to supplemental pay for medical personnel dealing with COVID to support for enhancement of the solar power system at the mission station to establishing a means for providing a living wage for the doctors, nurses and staff of the La Gonave Wesleyan Hospital who are faithfully serving in spite of compensation that is far less than equivalent positions in Port-au-Prince.

Your generous response to these requests is acknowledged with deep appreciation. The positive impact of your responses cannot be overstated.

Even as plans were being made for teams to return and address the critical need for facility maintenance and repair, another wave of COVID-19 impacted the island of La Gonave, and the country (and world) was shaken by the assasination of President Moise. Even as we pray for calm and watch and wait to see if a sense of stability emerges, responses are needed to meet current needs.

As other parts of the world experience a decline in COVID-19, Haiti is experiencing a major resurgence. Although the La Gonave Wesleyan Hospital had closed its dedicated COVID unit earlier this year, it was recently necessary to reopen it. Reopening the COVID unit created a substantial financial burden for the hospital. In addition to the cost of added medical staff, other expenses include lab work, personal protective equipment such as gloves and masks, additional housekeeping and cleaning costs, oxygen (which must be shipped in), security, and food. The hospital does not currently have funding to meet these expenses without outside support.

Your contributions will unquestionably help save lives and minister to the hurting people of La Gonave and Haiti.
