Happy Independence Day!
On social media I'd posted a question asking people what freedom meant to them. Here are some of the responses: (I'm not telling you the names of those who responded, as I didn't ask them permission.)
  •  True freedom would be never to care about what people say, and to never have to answer to anyone. But the way societies are built, one can never experience that degree of freedom.
  •  Freedom means freedom of speech.
  •  I feel free when I'm alone. When I'm alone I can be myself.
  •  If I'm able to surrender totally to God, I feel free.
  •  When work goes according to plan, I feel free.
  •  I feel free when my husband is not around, breathing down my neck. ;)
  •  Freedom is doing whatever you want, whenever you want.
  •  Freedom means to be free of worries.
  • I'll feel free when I can walk down a road at any time of day or night and not feel any fear of being groped or molested.
It was nice reading all the takes on freedom. Hope you enjoyed them too.
From My Blog
So here's my take on when I feel most free.
Reading Freedom
Book Talk
What was I reading this past month?
Among the articles that remained with me was this one about one of India's first women foreign service officers in I think it's an appropriate read on this day when we celebrate India's independence and are thinking about the different and layered meanings of the word freedom.
A book that I loved was Cloud Atlas. Click on the link in case you want to take a sneak peek and buy it.
That's all this time, friends. Here's a quote for you until we meet next:
For to be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others. - Nelson Mandela
