Biodiesel is a renewable fuel that is mainly made from soybean oil in the U.S.

Missouri is the 3rd largest biodiesel producer in the U.S.

Biodiesel has lower engine and greenhouse gas emissions than traditional diesel.

Increased biodiesel demand may increase food costs.

Judge tosses Missouri voter ID lawsuit

A Missouri judge dismissed a lawsuit Thursday that argued a new law requiring Missourians to present a government-issued photo ID to vote is unconstitutional. Currently, voters can present a variety of different forms of identification at the polls, including some that don’t include a photo, like a utility bill or voting card. Under the new law, registered voters would either have to get a government-issued photo ID or cast a provisional ballot on Election Day.

Costs of incarceration rise as inflation squeezes inmates, families

Across the nation, prison commissaries are raising prices on items that many consider basic necessities — from deodorant to fresh fruit — not provided by the state department of corrections. The markups come as decades-high inflation is also squeezing inmates’ families, making it harder for them to help. Prisoner advocacy groups, prisoners and families are advocating for policy changes to address the high prices, and some lawmakers are starting to address the issue.

Jay Ashcroft can delay review for 2024 initiative petitions until after election, Missouri judge rules

There is no way under Missouri law to save time on initiative petitions by submitting them early, Cole County Circuit Judge Jon Beetem ruled Wednesday. In the decision, Beetem wrote he found “unpersuasive” the arguments of Jeff Basinger, a Columbia attorney, that the law requires Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft to conduct a required review of proposed initiatives as soon as they are presented to his office.

Applications for our Executive Policy Fellowship continue to be accepted on a rolling basis. MOST Executive Policy Fellows assist state agencies with incorporating data management, analysis, visualization, and integration practices to improve program design and implementation according to agency priorities. Executive Policy Fellows also have opportunities to build policy-relevant skills by participating in professional development activities hosted by MOST and by contributing additional capacity to team projects as appropriate.

We are currently seeking candidates that have (or will have) a terminal degree (M.S./M.A. or above) in data science, computer science, systems engineering, or a related field (e.g., operations management), or have completed a terminal degree in another discipline that required extensive data analysis.
