TRILLION TREES NEWS

JULY 2019

WE'RE HALF-WAY THROUGH THE PLANTING SEASON

It has been so encouraging to see hundreds of people register and turn up to tree planting events this year.

Many made it a family day out. We witnessed several occasions where there were three generations from the same family taking part in tree planting. At our Trillion Trees annual planting day at Whiteman Park our VIP was Thomas Scaglione, an 8 year old who choose planting trees as his scout project, raised money for this cause. His knowledge about trees is very impressive. Well done Thomas for being a champion and voice for the trees and leading the way for your generation.

Our sincere thanks to Whiteman Park, our major partners for almost 2 decades. The Whiteman Park team support us in so many ways before, during and after the event.

This year we welcomed a new major sponsor in DHL. The DHL team (pictured above) fitted right into the spirit of the event and, in addition to great support in tree planting, they also took part in helping across the event - cooking the BBQ lunch and helping in many other ways. We hope this is the first of many years of collaboration to grow a greener world.

Donations
We are very proud of the great work undertaken by our Trillion Trees Revegetation team in organising these planting days that give people an opportunity to spend time in nature. There is a huge level of behind the scene work that goes on. A big thank you to members and friends of Trillion Trees who have donated to the Trillion Trees Challenge. Without your donations we cannot begin to do this work. Trillion Trees annual planting events are dependent on donations and sponsorships.

Grants
This year’s plantings in the Hasluck area has been supported through the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program’s 20 Million Trees Grant. The plantings along the Woodbridge section of the Helena river, and the related educational workshops, have been supported by the Australian Government National Landcare Program Small Environmental Grants.

IT'S PLANTING SEASON

You're invited to join us for one of our many planting events. Please register - places are limited for many of our events and by registering we can let you know if there are any changes. We won’t stop planting if it rains. Rain is good for the seedlings, but we will cancel a planting if there is an anticipated thunderstorm or if there are weather warnings or other risky situations that will affect us

23,000 Seedlings Planted  in One Day
On Sunday July 21 we planted over 23,000 seedlings over a 30 acre area of paddock at Powderbark Hill Farm which is located 7 kilometers to the West of York. The area adjoins 6 Mile Brook which ultimately runs into the Avon River. This planting, and other areas planted by the Owner Chris Pullin with help from the Men of the Trees for the last 25 years, will help complete a corridor for wildlife running between two major bush reserves.A big thank you to all the staff and volunteers for their hard work and careful planting -this was a truly outstanding effort.

A world audit of trees in 2015 shows there are just 3 trillion trees left in the world - that's half what there used to be.

We, as a global community, need a new tree planting target - to plant 1 trillion trees!

If each person in the world plants 140 trees, we will achieve this!
