CONNECTING WITH NATURE

We are overjoyed that physical distancing restrictions have eased. This means we can bring people together to plant trees. It will not be at the same scale as previous years but we are very happy that it will be happening.

Planting days mean a lot to us.

They connect us with the earth and the elements. We become more aware of the plants and animals. Nature seems to evoke a wonderful sense of peace, happiness and oneness, and a greater respect for the interdependence of everything on our planet.

City of Swan's Annual Native Plant Give-away to Residents a Big Hit

Last Saturday, 10,000 native trees and plants grown by Trillion Trees were distributed to 450 residents as part of the City of Swan's annual Rural Properties Revegetation Program.

The Program supplies free plants to residents in rural areas to encourage revegetation of their properties using native species. These plants are adapted to Perth region's soils and climate and have low watering requirements.

The program is one of Perth's largest native plant giveaways and Trillion Trees have been proudly involved for over a decade, helping the City of Swan distribute tens of thousands of native plants.

Normally a festive community event, this year COVID-19 restrictions meant we needed to organise this annual event differently. Saturday's give-away achieved the largest turn-out to date.

Residents registered to receive their plants and on collection day were given a no contact drive-through service with volunteers placing the plants straight into the boot of each resident’s car.

Thank you to the team of volunteers who helped through the day. The very successful event was coordinated by our Nursery Manager Jill Holland, and the City of Swan's Program Coordinator Ben de Haan, Thanks also to City of Swan Mayor Kevin Bailey, and Councillors Cate McCullough and Claire Scanlan for taking the time to attend.

Helping plant 200 trees

This month we welcome the support of Stainless Steel Pegs with their first monthly donation helping plant 200 trees.

Stainless steel pegs, trading as I Will Last, are a Sydney-based family company providing top quality home products - stainless steel pegs, drinking straws and scissors - made to stand the test of time.

A world audit of trees in 2015 shows there are just 3 trillion trees left in the world - that's half what there used to be.

We, as a global community, need a new tree planting target - to plant 1 trillion trees! If each person in the world plants 140 trees, we will achieve this!
