The plantings for Guildford Meadows were mammoth - 26 thousand seedlings to plant.  Originally we had three days in our calendar for community plantings but it soon became clear that we needed much more time as the pantings were hard going. We decided that apart from planting during the week we would include a fourth community day - on Fathers Day.

The day before on Saturday 31 August, the 3rd Community day was a glorious spring day. Everyone was in excellent form with many families attending. Fathers Day, the next day, the weather changed and by 9:30 am we had serious rain and wind! A group of determined people planted through the rain - many were soaking wet, boots and all! A small team remained for lunch but Mother Nature kept up the pressure, and with the rain beating sideways we finally packed up in a big hurry with the knowledge that we had 6 thousand seedlings yet to plant ! That was 1st September.

On 11 September a team of inspired people put the last plants in the ground! It took five more days from Fathers Day to now to complete the planting of  the 26 thousand seedlings. We couldn't have done this without our volunteers who just would not give up - it reminds me of the quote from the anthropologist Margaret Mead:

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."

We commenced the 20 Million Trees Planting in June -  three and a half months later we have finally finished!  Now commences the next stage of work, that of checking over the plantings, weeding and monitoring - I hope you can join us!.

Thank you to all of you who joined us to contribute towards our Trillion Trees Challenge.

A world audit of trees in 2015 shows there are just 3 trillion trees left in the world - that's half what there used to be.

We, as a global community, need a new tree planting target - to plant 1 trillion trees!

If each person in the world plants 140 trees, we will achieve this!
