Dear MMA families,

We are at that time of year again — cold and flu season. All cadets are instructed to notify an instructor, coach, faculty advisor or member of the health center staff if they are ill. If you are concerned your cadet is sick, please encourage him to tell someone as soon as possible.

When a cadet does become ill, we make sure he rests and stays hydrated as we monitor his health, comfort and well-being. We will contact you if your cadet is diagnosed by the clinic with a virus or other illness, and we will update you regularly on his recovery, if he is sick in quarters. You may call the health clinic(573-581-1776, ext. 643), the commandant's office (573-581-1776, ext. 521), or your cadet's residential faculty officer (RFO) for an update as needed.

Please help us keep your young man well ...
  • remind him how important proper hand washing is to prevent illness
  • encourage him to use antibacterial hand sanitizer, provided in the dining hall, in classrooms, in RFO offices and throughout the Academy
  • remind him to disinfect his desk, computer keyboard, etc. regularly using disinfectant wipes available from his RFO
  • recommend that he eat a well-balanced diet.

To limit the spread of germs, our staff has protocols in place to disinfect all surfaces regularly. The dining facility staff routinely wipes down table tops and floors with sanitizer. All eating utensils, glasses, plates and trays are cleaned and sanitized using heat provided by an industrial dishwasher. Our maintenance crews diligently clean and disinfect classrooms, common areas and bathrooms.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at or 573-581-1776, ext. 643.

Stay well!

Illness Prevention Tips for Cadets

Remember the best way to prevent illness is simply to wash your hands! Cover your mouth when you cough. Limit hand-to-hand or hand-to-face contact with others.
Steps to clean your barracks to limit the spread of germs
Disinfectant wipes will be provided to all cadets throughout cold and flu season.
  1. Apply a disinfectant Clorox wipe to the surface to be cleaned and allow to dry. The drying time is important because it gives the disinfectant time to work.
  2. Once the surface is dry, wipe the surface to clean away any residue left by the disinfectant.
Make sure you clean the following contact points …
  • Door knobs, handles or locks
  • Light switches
  • Stair rails
  • Faucet and toilet handles
  • Computer key boards
  • Remote controls
  • Bed rails and lockers
If you are not feeling well … Do you have a fever or chills AND a cough or sore throat?

If “yes,” you may have the flu. Symptoms of flu include fever or chills and cough or sore throat. In addition, symptoms of flu can include runny nose, body aches, headache, tiredness, diarrhea, or vomiting.

Cadets who think they have the flu should stop by the clinic after 07:30 a.m. (after med line) to be evaluated by the health center staff.
