Wearing Masks in Church
Due to the recent increase in Covid cases, we have decided to revert back to allocating seating specifically for people wearing masks or not during services. To help keep everybody feeling safe, we will have the South side of church reserved for people that prefer to wear a mask and the North side of church reserved for people that do not wish to wear a mask.
Thank you to Roland and Bon Voyage
This week we said a huge thank you and bon voyage to Roland Deller. Roland has been with us for about three years as a Director of Development. It has been a joy to work alongside him. His passion and diligence in helping us with the restoration project at St Mary‘s have enhanced the church in such a way that it will leave a legacy for hundreds of years to come. His ability to encourage and work alongside others to bring out the best in them have been a huge asset. Alongside that as an eye for detail and design which have enhanced the way in which St Mary‘s presents itself in such a way as to draw others in. His love of music has brought an extra dimension to the work that he’s done here. A fuller description of Roland's work and our thanks will appear in the Pilgrim Rabbit Newsletter

He will continue to hold a special place in the heart of St Mary’s and we wish him well.
Message from Jennifer Smith
Jennifer and her family would like to thank everyone who came to David’s Memorial Service last Saturday. It was lovely to see so many of you there. Also many thanks to Becky for her kind words, the Choir for their beautiful singing, the Bell ringers for their Quarter Peal and all other contributors. It all made it so special. Bless you all
The Big Quiz
Here’s a question for you: what’s even more exciting than a UK-wide, multi-venue mega-quiz that brings people together for a fun-filled evening?

Answer: the fact that said mega-quiz is going to raise money that will make a real and lasting difference to the lives of some of the world’s most vulnerable people.

We are looking for a volunteer PCC Treasurer to take over from our existing Treasurer, from 1st January 2022 or sooner if possible.   Duties include:
  • Posting  collections and other receipts to the various PCC Accounts
  • Paying Suppliers, staff and other payments
  • Administering wages (our Accountants do the actual payroll)
  • Bank Reconciliations
  • Attendance at PCC meetings to be aware of the Church plans, and report on the financial status of the accounts on a quarterly basis
  • Tracking the investment portfolio including posting quarterly investment interest
  • Year end Accounts for presentation to the PCC, Inspection by our Accountants and reporting to the Charity Commission
Knowledge of accounts is needed, attention to detail and the ability to use a computer (including on-line banking).   The time required is approximately 1 day per week at times to suit yourself, but can vary, with 2 days at the month end. The work can be carried out in your own home, there is a laptop and printer available. Well established procedures are in place to make the role easier. Full training will be given, and hand holding as and when required (for as long as needed) by the current Treasurer.  If you would like to discuss this in more detail please speak to Anne Mansfield, 01482 865205.
P.s. from Anne:  I find the job interesting and varied, particularly seeing the Church grow, I will miss it, but I have done the job for seven years and it needs someone new to take on the post.
Discovering Narnia/Christmas
All the children from St. Mary's School will be coming into Church for "Discover Narnia and Christmas" sessions w/c 6th December. To make these sessions work we need volunteers to help. Each year group will come into church for a morning or afternoon session. We will split the classes into smaller groups of 8-10 children and these groups will rotate around various different stations set up around the church. Volunteers from previous years have really enjoyed having the chance to talk to the children and show them various aspects of the church and christian religion. If you would like to help please contact the office or speak to Becky for more details: 01482 869137

A simple form of evening prayer and candle lighting *

At St Mary's we would like to invite you to join us in a short time of prayer every day at 7pm. It involves lighting a candle and placing it in the window and then saying the following prayers as individuals or as households.  You can join with others in these prayers on our Facebook page.

The Lord almighty grant us a quiet night and a perfect end. Amen.

Our help is in the name of the Lord
who made heaven and earth.

A period of silence for reflection on the past day may follow.

O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.

Glory to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning is now
and shall be for ever. Amen.

The reading for the day (see below)**

The candle is lit and the following prayer is said
Heavenly Father, accept this burning candle as a sign of faith and love.
Like this candle, bring light into our world
Even as this candle is lit may we know your presence
and be consumed in the warmth of your love.
In your mercy, Lord hear our prayer.

In peace we will lie down and sleep;
for you alone, Lord, make us dwell in safety.

Abide with us, Lord Jesus
for the night is at hand and the day is now past.

As the night watch looks for the morning
so do we look for you, O Christ.

The Lord bless us and watch over us;
the Lord make his face shine upon us and be gracious to us;
the Lord look kindly on us and give us peace. Amen.
