US OPEN BUS TRIP TO NYC
Scranton Tennis Club's annual bus trip to the US Open is now available to both STC members and non-members. The trip is on Wednesday, August 31. We will be leaving the Scranton Tennis parking lot at approximately 7:30 am and leaving the Open at 6:00 pm, getting back to the STC at around 9 pm. In addition to providing a reserved seat in Arthur Ashe Stadium, you have the opportunity to see a variety of matches in Louis Armstrong and Grandstand stadiums as well as the action on the field courts with your all-courts pass. Matches are played rain or shine since there is a roof over Arthur Ashe and Louis Armstrong stadiums.

We will be serving a light breakfast of bagels, donuts, coffee and juice starting at 7 am. There will also be snacks and bottled water for what is usually a fairly hot day, and snacks and drinks for the ride home.

The price is $150 per person. We will be boarding the bus in the order that tickets were sold, so get your reservation in as soon as possible. Put your check in an envelope and mark it "US Open bus trip" and deposit in the lockbox on the porch or mail to PO Box 678, Clarks Summit, PA 18411. Please include your phone number and email address with your reservation, because tickets are sent to you electronically.
STC JUNIOR TOURNAMENT
STC Junior Tournament is going on now, with the semifinals and finals coming up today and tomorrow. William Arp will take on Luke Kotcho on Thursday at 3:45 pm in a rematch of the Boys 18 and Under final from last year. In semifinal action Arp defeated Harrison Kubilus 6-1, 6-2, while Kotcho eliminated Connor Peters 6-1, 6-0. The consolation final in that division is set for Thursday at 1:15 pm, with Liam Farrell taking on Zak Keiser. Keiser blanked Dante Deemer 6-0, 6-0, and Farrell took out Nate Woelkers 6-1, 6-2.

Emma Cuck, Maia Philbin, and Susan Arp joined Sona Hanumali in the semifinals of the Girls 18 and Under. Cuck knocked out her future Scranton Prep teammate Ella Cohen 6-1, 6-1, Philbin started slowly but finished strong in defeating Kate Arp 6-3, 6-1, and Susan Arp outhit Grace Devine 6-2, 6-2. The semifinals are today at 2:30 pm, with the finals tomorrow at 2:30 pm.

In the Boys 14 and Under Zander Zymblosky joined William Arp, Matthew Cohen, and Alex Harrison in the semifinals with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Owen Melan. Zymblosky plays Arp, and Cohen and Harrison battle today at 1:15 pm, with the finals tomorrow at 1:15 pm.

The Girls 14 and Under semifinals are set, with top-seeded Emma Cuck taking on Lindsay Bartell, while Elsie Phillips challenges second-seeded Sona Hanumali, with both matches at 12 noon today. Finals are tomorrow ar 12 noon. In Tuesday action Bartell defeated Julia Schuster 6-1, 6-3, Phillips ousted Bartell's sister Lauren 7-5, 6-1, and Hanumali took out Madelyn Pisko 6-0, 6-1.

MID-SEASON STC MEMBERSHIP
STC is offering a mid-season membership. Mid-season members will have the opportunity to play in our play groups and sub in our leagues with fixed schedules. They will also have the opportunity to play in any club events held after August 1. If you are interested, please fill out the membership form here, and return to the club with your payment. The cost for an Adult Individual membership will be $180 and for a Family/Household membership $270. Junior and Student memberships remain at $125. It's a great opportunity to introduce someone to the club or try out the club, if you have never been a member before.
LABOR DAY BLIND DRAW MIXED DOUBLES

Sign-up sheets will be up shortly for the Blind Draw Mixed Doubles Tournament which will be held on Labor Day, September 5. Players arrive by 8:45 am, with play starting at 9 am. Sign up soon so you don't miss out, as we are limited to 12 men and 12 women. It's a great opportunity to meet other club members and enjoy some fun tennis! Arrive early to warm up. Preliminary matches may last until about noon, with the top 4 men and women advancing to the semifinals.
 
•    We encourage members to invite guests to play ($10 guest fee, free for members)
•    Round Robin format, play at least 3 matches
•    Prizes for the finalists 

The tournament will take all the courts from about 9 am to noon.

OTHER STC NEWS
John Weiss and Kathleen McKenna will conduct Stroke of the Week today at 6 pm. This program is free to STC adult members.

The STC Annual Dinner Meeting and Party will be held on Saturday, September 17 at the Waverly Country Club. Details on the menu and price will come out shortly. Hope you will be able to join us!

STC will offer three junior clinics in August for those wishing to continue their lessons. The clinics will be on Monday afternoons from 1:00 to 2:30 pm from August 15 to August 29. The cost will be $20/day, payable on the day of the lesson. Reservations are not required. Students can attend one, two, or all three sessions. Call John at 570-497-9003 if you have any questions. There won't be clinics offered any more on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
STC COURT USE POLICIES
During times when no members are waiting to play; a group may use a court as long as desired. At times when all courts are occupied and there are members waiting to play, the following policy shall be followed by those playing and those waiting: 

Groups waiting to play shall write their group's name at the bottom of the list on the chalkboard located on the porch. At the end of each set, players should announce "Court Open" and yield the court to waiting members. When a court becomes available for play, the highest listed group shall occupy the vacated court and erase its name from the list.
STC GUEST POLICY
Fees are $10 per visit for adult guests and $5 per visit for junior guests. Guests are limited to 5 visits per year.  Members, please sign your and your guest’s name in the book on the porch and pay for your guests on the day they visit by depositing the fee in an envelope provided on top of the black lockbox, writing the date, your name and your guest’s name on the envelope, and depositing the envelope in the lockbox.
