Greetings from the Scranton Tennis Club! I hope everyone has had a year of health, vaccinations and some tennis or at least watching some good matches. We are eager to open the courts for a summer of great play, leagues, lessons, and tournaments. We still have some Covid protocols that we will need to follow, and we all need to do our part to make STC Covid free, like it was last summer!
Our Open House will be held on Saturday, May 15 from 11 am to 2 pm, at which time we can answer any questions you may have. We will have an exhibition match featuring 3-time district singles champion Bella Peters (shown at right). We also will have a group of parents and their kids play to showcase how fun and rewarding tennis can be at any age. Bring your racquet, so you too can participate. If you don’t have a partner, we’ll find you one.
Click the links for our 2021 membership application, schedule of club events, and our play program info. We will again be offering an early bird discount on membership if you pay by May 15. Print off the form, fill it out, and mail with your check to our PO Box or drop it off at the mailbox at the club porch. If you wish to spread out your payments, please make your first installment payment by May 31.
Please review the play opportunities STC is offering - leagues, organized play, free Wednesday Stroke of the Week clinic, junior programs, social play, tournaments, lessons and more. We have created a full menu of options to get you out on to the courts meeting new people and improving your tennis game. We encourage you to join one or more of our organized play groups by signing up with the coordinators to get their weekly invite email. If you would like to play in a scheduled league, please sign up by May 18. We will try to accommodate all players who meet the qualifications for a league, but some leagues may have to be limited because of court availability. Get your name on the list early so you do not miss out! If you are unsure of your NTRP rating, please contact John Weiss (email@example.com) or STC Pro Joe McNulty (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Over the winter we made some purchases that we think will improve the quality of the courts and make Joe McNulty’s job a little easier. We have purchased a new shed, which will house the new quad, spreader, nail gun, Gator rake, and other equipment which we have purchased to help Joe get the courts ready in the spring and for regular daily maintenance.
We would like to welcome two new STC board members – Patty Silverstein & Phil Davolos to the board. Your STC board also includes John Weiss, President; Jody Jackman, Vice President; Phil Molling, Treasurer, along with Kelly Lenahan, John Lucas, Denise Marcos, Collier Parker and Paul Pugliese. We are looking for volunteers to round out our Membership, Marketing, Social, Facilities and League committees. Joining a committee is a great way to get involved, meet new people, and lend your professional skills to support STC. Email email@example.com if you are interested in volunteering.
Please share this email with any of your friends or colleagues who might be interested in joining the club. STC offers a wide variety of play opportunities for beginners, returning players and those looking to improve their game.
We look forward to seeing everyone on the courts for a great season of play!
NEW TO TENNIS- WE'LL TEACH YOU!
If you are new to the sport, we will be offering a USTA Tennis 101 program for adults. Tennis101 is a new entry-level program from the USTA that will help you learn (or re-learn) the basics of the game in a fun, relaxed, no-pressure environment. The program runs for six weeks and includes a one-hour lesson each week followed by a half hour of play time. Classes will be held on Saturdays at 1 pm starting on June 26. The cost is $120 for the 6 sessions.
Scranton Prep coach Kathleen McKenna will be the lead instructor for this program. Contact her @ firstname.lastname@example.org or call 570-906-0935 to sign up or get more information.
