AN ARTLETTER

Yes, an Art letter. Welcome to my mind, eyes, hands, and heart. Welcome to my world of art. I know many of us are feeling heavy, hopeless, and angry about the recent killings of our brothers and sisters around the country. I know many of us, including myself, feel paralyzed and numb for our future in America as COVID-19 and white supremacy continues to takes the lives of brown and black people at a disproportionately high rate.

Art has saved my life countless times throughout the years. It has kept my head up high. It has given me purpose. It has reminded me that am not alone in what I feel and that art comes from pain. A pain that transcends into something higher: vulnerability and relatability for the people. It is beautiful, it is ugly, it is honest.

I believe there is a piece of art for every feeling, every mood, and every experience. I hope I am a guide to the art that is needed for you and offers you not a distraction, but another way to help you cope in this scary moment in history.

Remember: these moments shall pass, as all moments do.

"Art is long and time is fleeting"

 With Love,

Ciarra K. Walters

A PERFORMANCE PIECE

In Red  is a meditative video performance piece focusing on the Root Chakra, presence in the body, and the spiritual need for grounding one's self.

I will be premiering
In Red via Zoom on Sunday, May 31, 2020, at 8:00 p.m. EST.

The performance piece will be followed by a discussion with
Mitchell-Innes & Nash gallery's very own, Andrea Delph.

ART, ART, AND WELL, MORE ART.
ART DAYS
Ah, art days. I dug up my art days from Instagram and added them to my website. If you're missing museums as much as I am, here lies 200+ photos, eight museums, and my thoughts about their collections. Dive into an Art Day here.
ART PLAYLISTS
Art videos, the key to exploring, understanding, and learning. I've gathered some of my favorite art channels on Youtube and made The Art Playlists, multiple playlists featuring videos that have either personally impacted me or on my "to watch list".

More to come in the future, but in the meantime, sit back and find the artist that speaks to you here
ART BOOKS
When asked where one begins their journey in the art world, art collector Pamela Joyner said, "Buy art books". Here lies a list of books I own, wish I owned, or they are the books that I have spent countless hours on museum floors with. Every book listed has a link that leads to a store to purchase it, supporting mostly museums, galleries, and smaller bookstores. Check out the list here
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
ART TALK

Last Friday I had the pleasure discussing politics of street art and fine art with my dear friend and The Underground Museum's Program Coordinator, Antoine Girard on IG Live.

For an hour we spoke about “street” art vs. “fine” art, our personal experience in the art world, and how amazing artists like,
Lauren Halsey, Khalil Jospeh, Arthur Jafa, and a few others, tie together “street” culture and fine art.

If you have the time, watch the talk

SUGAR WATER

Early March (pre quarantine), I directed my second music video alongside director, David Herrera for
Ali Oyo's single, Sugar Water.

Remind yourself what the old, free flowing, let's take a drive into the mountains of Malibu and end our day by the waves, felt like. Hope to direct more videos in the future!

Check out the video  here.
