tonight's pick-me-ups

Things we're doing to unwind and get cozy before bed tonight:

🎙️ Working, winning, and taking 👏 a damn 👏 break 👏 This Women at Work podcast episode covers how to take care right now, manage burnout, and realistically prioritize. Hint: you'll thank yourself after.

🦃 Staying put. With many of us going nowhere this holiday season,
here's how to deal if your family still makes you feel guilty about it. Gently remind them that it's for public safety and plan holiday activities from afar.

🧀 Finding the perfect pairings. Goat cheese and fig jam, gruyère and candied walnuts, rustic baskets and gourds – aka all the fixings for a
wow-worthy cheese plate to pre-game Thanksgiving.

🎁 Cozying up for the cold. Now that our pajamas fully double as our WFH outfit, the question is silk or fluffy?
This gift guide has something for everyone's taste. #staywarm #staycomfy

Reads when you're up late anyway. Here are tonight's round-up for every occasion:

SELF  For when happiness makes the world go round ~ Spreading joy can also spark your own joy, so pass around the smiles: "A better world means making sure everyone has their needs met. Earlier this year, I wrote about redistributing comforts and holding myself accountable when wanting to be selfish again. If you haven’t read them yet, bookmark them. For now, I’ll give you the tl;dr, which is: For a better world, we have to invest in the joy of others. An act that sounds so simple until you realize how much the pandemic, the very close elections, and racism have continuously taken away from us and others this year. In the midst of media chaos, it can be dizzying to have to pivot to a new focus every day. Especially if you can’t afford to stop doomscrolling. So, maybe this will help ... to keep spirits and efforts in check."

LIFESTYLE  For when home is wherever you are ~ Tiny houses are the way of the future and better for the planet: "A growing number of cities are beginning to change local regulations to allow the houses, and that could make a meaningful difference for affordable housing. San Jose, California, with a population of more than a million people, is one of the latest cities to legalize movable tiny homes. A new ordinance took effect in May. 'We see it really as a way to help address the housing crisis that we have here in the city,' says Rosalynn Hughey, director of San Jose’s planning department. 'We know that we have to use all of the tools in our toolbox in terms of building affordable units, and this particular housing type can be done really cost-effectively and can be done really quickly.'"

RELATIONSHIPS  For when a 'situationship' is the new 'it's complicated' ~ Which may be equally confusing, but at least without the pressure of commitment: "Millennials are well known for their aversion to commitment. Sarah, like many others, was a victim of this: her relationship wasn’t as serious as she thought it was. Some bad news: if you’ve been seeing someone for a while and assumed that, because they kiss you in front of their friends, you’re now 'together,' you might be in a situationship too. Researchers believe that dating apps are to blame for a 'sex recession' and a lack of intimacy among millennials, giving users so much choice that they never want to settle down. So it’s no surprise that situationships – which sit somewhere between a friendship and a relationship – leave those who find themselves tangled in one confused."

FUN  For when Sagittarius season means good vibes for everyone ~ Happy birthday to the savvy and sassy sign! Mark your calendars for some exciting dates during this next season: "There is nothing more magical than leaning into a generous spirit, and as we make our way through the next 30 days, Sagittarius season is sprinkled full of encouraging reminders. One of the most mystical planets, Neptune, goes direct — shifting our spiritual energy and redirecting it in a forward, productive motion. Venus, our planet of love, affection and, value, mingles with Neptune to amplify this magic on a personal level. Two of the outer planets, Jupiter and Saturn, change signs, which will bring a noticeable collective shift. Sagittarius’ view is far-reaching and perceives the larger picture. These planetary changes will benefit the masses and that’s something Sagittarius can get behind."
