tonight's pick-me-ups

Things we're doing to unwind and get cozy before bed tonight:

💆‍♀️ Worrying about it later. Leave the stress about Monday for Monday. These are self-care practices for the rest of the night that ward off the Sunday Scaries.

🍫 Dishing it out. FYI
meal prepping includes desserts too, especially if it's dark chocolate hazelnut tart or gluten-free cheesecake brownies that are as healthy as it sounds delicious.

🛏️ Deep cleaning. Chores aren't fun, but this one is worth it because your mattress might be what's standing in the way of good sleep.
Here's your step-by-step guide to freshen your bed (and probably invest in a mattress protector).

💻 Making the most of March.
These free, downloadable tech backgrounds includes a to-do list to take plenty of breaks and finally schedule that dentist appointment.

bedtime stories

Reads when you're up late anyway. Here are tonight's round-up for every occasion:

For when the fewer the expectations, the better ~ Come again? In the psychology of expectations, seems that having them might be hurting you. "Over the years, I (along with many of you, I’d assume) have been told by relatives, peers, and literature that having high expectations could be hurting my well-being and shot at happiness. The theory goes: the lower we set the bar, the higher we’ll perceive the outcome, and the more gratified we’ll feel (which is definitely a valid point in many cases). Theoretically, looking at many situations as series of surprises versus outcomes from the expectations we make with ourselves could definitely be a hack to help us feel less defeated by matters out of our control. But does that mean that we just shouldn’t have expectations at all? Is getting rid of expectations and hopes entirely going to keep us driven and let us attain the things we feel we deserve?"

CULTURE  For when binge-watching the latest Netflix series sounds exhausting tbh ~ One writer's detox from streaming services found that network TV is as soothing as comfort food. "Watching network shows again feels like swathing myself in a cozy, familiar blanket. It’s a soft parade of uniformly telegenic people in clothes that always fit perfectly, bantering like aliens who grew up watching only Friends and ER. Nothing bad can happen to me while these sitcoms and dramas are on, twirling through the latest iteration of an ancient dance. Everything is alright, and if it’s not, it’s surely headed for a quick resolution ... Sometimes you just want to lie down and be counted, to sit in television’s warming glow and feel comfortable. That’s when network TV will always (probably?) be there for you. Come on in, the water’s still nice."

TRENDING  For when masks are wellness now ~ Cue alll the cringe. "But the promise of the wellness mask goes even further than climate change hell world wardrobe accessory. Vogmask bills its products as 'a tool for wellness, style, and a symbol of care for yourself, the planet, and the future.' Get that? Masks are self-care now. The slew of words that Vogmask uses could be in the marketing materials of any number of wellness goods: charcoal sticks that 'purify' water, bespoke packets of supplements that do very little for your health, paraben-free shampoo. Like so many of these items, the promise is to keep their consumer safe from threats that are, for many of us, not relevant. Masks have become a way of feeling safe, even as things spin out of control on a global level. The pitch works: Vogmasks are sold out through early March."

FUN  For when Spring is on the horizon ~ Flowers and opportunities are blooming alike. This is what to expect in March, according to your zodiac sign. "While January put us through cosmic boot camp and February left us hanging, March is here to help us clarify the plan and level up. That is, if we’re ready for the challenge."
