"It's the thing I like most, to laugh. It cures a multitude of ills."
~ Audrey Hepburn
tonight's pick-me-ups

Things we're doing to unwind and get cozy before bed tonight:

🎲 Jazzing up awards season. FYI the Oscars is this Sunday and at this point, we imagine the speeches will be fairly predictable. Liven up your watch party with a bingo game that makes every "I didn't expect this" a little more fun.

🌹 Stopping and smelling the roses, literally. Big test or presentation coming up?
Turn up a rose-scented diffuser or buy yourself flowers since a new study shows that sleeping in a rose-scented room can actually help to improve memory. #Zzz

🍩 Asking for the bouquets we really want. With Valentine's Day around the corner,
a *food* bouquet of donuts all the way to fried chicken is bound to show some extra love compared to the traditional floral bouquet.

💝 Feeling the love. If Valentine's Day is meant to celebrate your *soulmate*, call the BFF over and
treat her to a thoughtful and unique gift, such as the coveted Heartstagram. #galentines4ever

bedtime stories

Reads when you're up late anyway. Here are tonight's round-up for every occasion:

SELF  For when finding purpose feels like a lot of pressure ~ We're right there with you. If you're feeling a little stuck lately, try asking yourself these questions to discover what makes you soar (or roar). "Once you discover your purpose, you can do life on purpose. Intentionality takes you to a whole new level. No one has ever been successful doing something that they didn’t like, and no one has ever been successful doing something they can’t do well ... Success is knowing your purpose in life and having a growth plan to help you reach your maximum potential."

TRAVEL  For when experiencing the culture doesn't mean draining the bank ~ Pausing daily tasks during vacation in order to relax is great, but on your next vacation try grocery shopping as a new way to explore the local cuisine. "But when on vacation, the usual expectations surrounding grocery shopping are gone: The experience is less about what I need to buy, and more about what I want. There’s no better place to suss out those wants than a supermarket, which serves a very different purpose than a restaurant or a specialty market geared toward travelers. Grocery stores simply stock items that people seek out on a daily basis: vegetables, spices, and condiments regularly used in cooking in that particular neighborhood. The most natural way to observe how people live at my destination of choice is to navigate this annoying, but necessary everyday routine."

RELATIONSHIPS  For when the dating struggle is real AF at any age ~ If you think dating in your 20s seems hard, it may not be all that different at 70. Regardless, the adventure only gets better. "As Ines and I compared our experiences in dating — Ines with Jazzfest guy and other suitors, and me with various OkCupid and Bumble dates — we realized how remarkably similar they were, despite our 40-year age difference. We had both been ghosted, encountered offers of polyamory, and had suitors 'slide into our DMs' on social media. At both of our ages, we needed to be able to explain what we were looking for, define boundaries, gauge the other person’s interest, and determine compatibility. At both of our ages, we wanted help from each other to decrypt text messages and pick out date outfits."

WELLNESS  For when a healthy lifestyle isn't one-size-fits-all ~ The ever expanding wellness industry can make us feel pressured to follow exactly what the guru experts say. What gets lost in the process is what's best for you. "When it comes to real, unfiltered wellness, your 'best' will not always translate to the seemingly effortless health and boundless potential radiating from online gurus. In reality, much of it, is about confronting your own limitations. 'I don’t think we celebrate our wins enough and we’re looking for the next thing that can make us even better. We might be pretty great as it is.'"
