~ Jenny Han
tonight's pick-me-ups

Things we're doing to unwind and get cozy before bed tonight:

🛁 Cooling down our Hot Girl Summer because living your best life can use a break too. These tips for hiding a hangover from ice cold cucumbers to a bold red lip can be helpful while you recover this #SelfcareSunday.

👯 Texting the group chat. Celebrate National Friendship Day by making plans with your ride or dies ASAP to show how much you appreciate having them in your life. #manisandbesties

🍱 Skipping the sad desk salad. Especially when you can have a sweet potato and black bean quinoa bake or one (/several) of these other meal prep options for people who hate salad.

🎂 Wishing the Duchess of Sussex a very happy birthday. No hiding that we're suckers for the Markle Sparkle and in honor, we're rocking the low, messy bun and her other iconic royal beauty styles today.

bedtime stories

Reads when you're up late anyway. Here are tonight's round-up for every occasion:

SELF  For when there's one less lonely girl ~ Because all you need is me, myself, and I. This is how to find richness in loneliness. "It’s important to remember that a lot of beauty can come from times of solitude when we try to find the richness between the grime. Nothing is ever perfect, and if we begin to beat ourselves up because we’re feeling disconnected, we may have forgotten to rekindle with the most important relationship in our lives: the one we have with ourselves."

CULTURE  For when Wednesday nights will never be the same ~ Last week we bid our tearful goodbyes to Jane The Virgin, which was so much more about embracing womanhood than sex. "Sex was always a way for these women to explore their deepest wants and desires and, in turn, the parts of their lives that shaped these ideas in the first place. These are three women with three very different relationships to sex. And I find the idea that all of those opinions and ideas can coexist together really gratifying, because it reinforces that there’s no one way to be."

LIFESTYLE  For when meal prep is a luxury ~ We're tempted to pack the leftover pizza and call it a day too. This is why 'just cook more' isn't the solution to healthy eating. "When you hear advice about how to eat healthy with a busy schedule, you hear things about meal prepping on the weekends. But what if you work on weekends? What if you’re taking care of small children and sick parents? What if you’d rather spend what little free time you have doing something other than cook? Assuming that everyone can make time to cook if they choose to just isn’t fair."

WELLNESS  For when practicing gratitude is self-care ~ Brownie points if you turn it into a to-do list to spark joy all week long. "Your list can be one word — or even a paragraph — for each thing that makes you grateful. The next time you feel down, give making a Grand List of Gratitude a try. I absolutely promise you will raise your spirits. And I honestly believe with all my heart we can never run out of things to add to our list. Life is so abundant."
