"It’s where we go, and what we do when we get there, that tells us who we really are."
~ Joyce Carol Oates
tonight's pick-me-ups

Things we're doing to unwind and get cozy before bed tonight:

🏈 Leveling up for Super Bowl Sunday. Tbh we all know the best part is gathering your friends for a good old-fashioned watch party. Here are some tips to score without any fumbles, like creating one of those incredible, edible snack stadiums.

💤 Tidying up in the name of better sleep. For some of us (hey 👋), the messy life is the only life. But if a clean room can lead to better sleep,
a weekend cleanup checklist might be worth a try.

🚚 Making moves. Moving to a new home is an exciting time, but the price tag on the actual moving part can quickly dampen that excitement.
Try these methods to lower the cost of your next big move.

Caring for ourselves as written in the stars. We'll say it over and over: self-care is important. And if you're stuck on ideas lately,
turn to your zodiac sign as another place for inspo. Crystal healing? Looking at you, Pisces.

bedtime stories

Reads when you're up late anyway. Here are tonight's round-up for every occasion:

For when there's always room in your inner circle ~ You've heard it, seen it, been there — forming new friendships as an adult isn't as easy. The good news is that friendships are always ready to be found. "Taking a class is a great way to explore what you enjoy and meet others who are coming together to learn something too. Most of the time when we are learning, we are in a state of curiosity with an open mind and excitement. We are seeking new information and tools. Learning is fun, and is a great opportunity to meet others who share your interests."

CULTURE  For when trendy offices and catered gourmet lunches are overrated ~ Anne Wiener's latest memoir is a deep dive into the true ins and outs of Silicon Valley. "Wiener was a customer-support manager, not an engineer or a founder, so she always found herself a little bit peripheral to the big-dreaming action, but she was still present for the glamour and the gold rush. She wasn’t a CEO giving Beyoncé millions of dollars in stock to perform at a party — she was an average employee, interested in finding fulfilling work and worrying less about money than she had been."

TRENDING  For when it's time to plan the big day ~ If you weren't the type to dream about your wedding day since you were 6, planning it looks like a ton of work. The most important thing is to make sure your wedding is celebrating you and your partner, so go ahead and break with tradition. "Instead of hiring wedding planners, we replaced the strategies of strangers with hard labor, favors from friends, and problem-solving skills. While shirking the system wasn’t always breezy, it was beautiful, resulting in a party that empirically ruled, and came with a sense of accomplishment (plus an absence of buyer’s remorse)."

SLEEP  For when your AirPods have gotten stuck in your ear ~ No kidding here. That's what led this writer to purchasing a luxury of pillow earbuds. Perfect for all those nights you need to listen to music or some white noise to drift off into dreamland. "They are a simple miracle, and each time I recommend a pair to someone who brings up needing a way to listen to things in bed, they’re surprised that a product meant for such a specific problem exists. While I don’t listen to podcasts or sleep music or hour-long brown noise tracks every night, it’s comforting to know that when I need it, it’s there, able to be plugged into my phone and shoved under my pillowcase."
