tonight's pick-me-ups

Things we're doing to unwind and get cozy before bed tonight:

🧣 Serving looks. Early Spring may be on its way, but it's still cold enough to throw on
one of these Winter accessories sure to fit your style on a budget. Btw the cozy color-blocked mittens are seriously adorable.

🤗 Holding on tight. Holding hands is a sweet and subtle form of PDA, so embrace it (literally!).
Here are all the reasons why you should hold hands with your SO, parent, or BFF the next time you're out and about.

💤 Breaking up with fatigue. You know the feeling when it's 3PM and you're counting down to the end of the day or daydreaming about your bed.
A few tips, such as cutting back on caffeine (yes, really) and using essential oils, can help get rid of the tiredness.

💆‍♀️ Finding our type of R&R. Wellness trends come and go, but self-care is here to stay. From finding your people to keeping a gratitude journal, these are the self-care trends to look out for in 2020.

bedtime stories

Reads when you're up late anyway. Here are tonight's round-up for every occasion:

For when the I-word gets brought up ~ By which we mean 'introverted.' This is how to make it work for you in the workplace. "Quietly chugging away typically leads to well-executed projects, but it also puts you at risk of being written off as someone who (a) isn’t a team player, (b) is disgruntled, and/or (c) may not be trustworthy. None of those (unfair!) perceptions will help you rise ... Life at work doesn’t need to be this way. The key is to look for opps to round out your personality. Start by cherry-picking traits you see playing out in an extrovert’s favor, such as finding times to humblebrag."

WELLNESS  For when the wellness industry might have gone too far ~ Introducing Wellness Barbie, the latest line of the iconic doll that has Barbie meditating and hitting the spa (and boy, there are opinions). "Yes, a spa day is fucking awesome, and your girl definitely spends quality time in le tub, but this is not required to be a functioning adult with solid emotional and physical well-being. If Mattel is aiming to show girls what’s really worth the investment in your physical and mental health, I’d like to suggest Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Barbie and Barbie’s first annual Pap smear playset ... I really believe that Mattel meant well when they developed these dolls with extra bendy joints suitable for meditation poses, lifting weights, and soaking in a tub, but they’re just as confused by wellness as the rest of us."

LIFESTYLE  For when you shouldn't wait for your happy ending ~ Skip the wedding and the worry about settling down. Channel your inner Miranda Hobbes and go get your dream home for yourself. "It’s that same sense of preparedness that drove Tia Bennett to purchase a home on her own in Riverdale Park, Maryland, just outside of Washington, DC. 'When I think back to my 20s and early 30s, the ideal was finding a Prince Charming, getting married, starting a family, and living happily ever after,' says Bennett. 'Honestly, I held off on buying a home because, just like many women, I thought I’d have [the fairytale] first, then go into home-ownership with my spouse. But that never happened — and then time just starts passing you by. So when I hit my mid- to late-30s I decided to create my own happy ending.'"

ROUTINE ENVY  For when we're doing what she's doing ~ Enter the behind-the-scenes into the nightly routines of successful women who know how to manage their stress AND bedtime. Sneak peek: "In order to preserve the sanctity of her snooze, Arianna Huffington makes sure to keep her bedroom a screen-free zone. Before bed, her night routine involves leaving her electronics out of the bedroom and opting to read an actual book before dozing off into a restful slumber. Huffington encourages other women to do the same. She even goes so far as to call getting enough sleep a feminist issue. 'We're going to sleep our way to the top.'"
