Update from Eileen Robinson, our Family Liaison Officer
This is the final Newsletter of this academic year. The last few months have been a real challenge, as we found new ways of working.

I hope these monthly Newsletters have provided families with some useful links /ideas. I would really appreciate your feedback.
What did you use? How did it help? Did I miss anything? Do you have any suggestions?  Have you joined our closed Facebook page and if so, what else could we do on this page to keep families connected? How else could I support families? Would you be interested in virtual meetings, similar to what many classes have done over the last few months?

I do check my emails regularly. Although this may be less frequent in the summer holidays please do email me if there is anything urgent and I will reply as and when I am able to do so.  Please remember to keep up to date with the school blogs.

The easiest way to contact me is by email, or messages can be left with Reception staff at Killingworth

Best wishes,

Eileen

We recently held our first virtual PTA committee meeting which was very different to our usual meetings but worked very well!  We are hoping to arrange similar meeting for parents next term, watch this space for details.

The PTA is a member of Parentkind, which regulates and ensures that we are operating legally as well as providing insurance for events, templates for our governing documents, support and advice. We have renewed to ensure continuity.   We also pay annual subscriptions to The National Trust and the Tim Lamb Centre. As both remain closed, we will review and renew these subscriptions when we are able to use these venues for school visits.

Our Percy Hedley School PTA Facebook page now has 110 members, welcome to everyone who has joined recently! This is a closed group, open to school parents/carers, students aged 13+, staff and other family members. Please join to hear and share news, views and information about school.

Finally, we have had to postpone the PTA 100 club draw until September due to the current situation, and send our apologies for this.  We'll look forward to sharing news of our lucky winners next term!
Strange Times - a lovely poem by Toby's mum
The new years celebrations were in full swing
But little did we know what the new year would bring
All around the world we would watch the news to see
This virus spreading quickly on its way to you and me

And soon our lives would be upside down as we were asked to stay inside
As the virus spread so quickly, in our homes we had to hide
In self isolation families stuck together
Inside their homes for what felt like forever
The nurses, the doctors, the full NHS
Were front line hero's and set their biggest test
Previously undervalued without full appreciation
They worked tirelessly with full dedication

The bin men, the postman and the delivery drivers too
Kept working through it all providing services to you
The schools all closed and it changed in an instant
But the teachers kept working hard providing parents with assistance.

The carers, the food banks and the volunteers were there
Helping the elderly and those in need, showing the world that they care
The police, the fire and the ambulance service
Were there protecting us so we felt safe and less nervous

The supermarkets were under strain as people over stocked
But they were filling shelves day and night until the doors were locked
There were people that surprised us and left us in awe
Of their kindness and strength seen never before.

I’m sad that I didn’t get to spend the whole year with you
To learn and have fun, showing you all I can do
But I’m grateful you were there helping me to thrive
With my weekly phone calls and work on Google drive

I have tried my best and been as good as I can
And loved spending time with my brothers, dad and mam
So these are the things I will always remember
Thank you so much and I will see you in September.

Love Toby Horner

Sporting Stars and Green Fingers!
June saw National School Sport Week at Home 2020 organised by the Youth Sport Trust, and this year's theme was TOGETHERNESS.  Percy Hedley School joined in with the North Tyneside PE & Sport Team to support the week and celebrate the impact of sport on young people’s wellbeing.  Students took part in 60 second challenges throughout the week both in the sports hall and outside in the school yard and great fun was had by all!
We've also been busy coming up with new PE activities this term, with students enjoying floor air hockey, noughts and crosses, gymnastics and many other fun games!
With all of this sporting excellence, it will come as no surprise that our amazing Sports Teacher Helen Jackson and the school team were award the School Games Gold Award recently!  Congratulations to Helen, her colleagues and of course our fabulous students, we are so proud of you all!
Students have also been planting flowers and vegetables this term and learning how to look after them.  We're looking forward seeing them bloom!
Fundraising Update
As you know, fundraising has been incredibly difficult in recent months, with many events and activities cancelled or postponed, our annual Percy Hedley Ball and the Great North Run being the latest. This loss of funds is devastating and we are so grateful to everyone who has donated to our Covid-19 Appeal or taken one their own challenges for us, thank you.
We are working hard to develop new ways to raise money for the amazing work we do across our Percy Hedley Services, and are looking forward to sharing them with you in the coming weeks.
In the meantime please don't hesitate to contact us with any thoughts, ideas or plans you have at fundraising@percyhedley.org.uk
