The year 2021 is coming to its end but before it does we would like to share with you one more newsletter with the latest DSW news and development. Cold weather and little sunshine cannot stop us from bringing up new features or participating in BioHackathon Europe. If you are eager to know more details, then keep reading.

Celebrating Three Years from DSW 1.0

DSW celebrates three years since the first version 1.0 was released! The origins of the DSW however started way back in 2012. Find out how our data management tool grew from a mind-map and questionnaire into an internationally recognised gold-standard for data stewardship. You can go back in time and try version 1.0 out.

Comments in Projects

In October, the 3.4.0 version brought a new feature of adding comments and Editor notes to any question in your project. Anybody with Commenter rights (and higher) can comment but the Editor notes can be added and seen only by Editors and/or Owners of the project. With this new feature, you can communicate and discuss your projects within and outside of your team easily and more effectively.

BioHackathon Europe

During the ELIXIR’s BioHackathon Europe 2021, we worked on integrating with the Data Information System (DAISY) developed by ELIXIR-LU. The outcomes (both content and new features) and the final report on BioHackrXiv will be released soon; stay tuned because we will definitely tweet about it. We also started a fruitful collaboration with the Software Management Plans group and launched SM Wizard. We would like to thank the organizers for this great unique event and all of our team members again.

RDMkit Workshops

Within the ELIXIR CONVERGE project, we are working with the experts who produce RDMkit to align the expertise in the DSW core knowledge model and the RDMkit pages. This happens in workshops each focusing on a single RDMkit page. The result is better questions in the knowledge model and additional context-appropriate links in both resources.

Integration Question

The key new feature in the 3.6.0 version (released in December) is enhancing integration questions. Both item identifier and its Markdown-enabled visual representation as the answer can be now configured using Jinja2 templating language via KM Editor. With that, you can process more complex replies from APIs and display them nicely in DSW (e.g. make title bold, include part of the description, and so on). Besides that, it further promotes the interoperability of DSW with other tools in the FAIR ecosystem and beyond.

Christmas and New Year

We all wish you Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and we are looking forward to helping you with planning next year again!
