Tis the season to hibernate, read books on the couch in a festive onesie, and let cookies crumbs adorn you like a poorly decorated Christmas tree. That's what everyone is doing, right??? For those of you who are held captive by the page (and cookie) this winter, we've got more news about who and what we're publishing next year,  promo codes for free audio books, and details about upcoming events. Okay, We Really did Finalize Our 2020 Author Lineup!

Since we sent our last newsletter, we convinced two more phenomenal poets to join the Blue Cactus Press family. We've listed our entire 2020 and early 2021 lineup below in case you missed the news in November!

Meet Gina Hietpas, a lifelong poet whose work centers on themes of  illness and allyship, observations of the natural world and loss. Gina's work will hollow you out and leave you crying in the middle of the woods as you stare into the campfire at night. But don't worry, we're publishing her debut poetry collection this summer, so it'll be warm when you read her work and emotionally melt. Much of Gina's work in life has been with the National Park Service,  and she's worked in the non-profit industry and taught youth, as well.

Get ready for a new poetry collection by Robert Lashley, folks! We've been sending secretive twitter messages and alluding to our new partnership with Lashley for months, and we're excited to officially announce we're in cahoots! Robert is one of the Pacific Northwest's most talented poets. He's a writer and activist, as well as a Jack Straw Fellow, Artist Trust Fellow, and nominee for a Stranger Genius Award.  We've been clutching Lashley's poetry manuscript for dear life ever since he sent it our way. Be on the lookout for Robert's new book in Spring 2021.

We acquired Kellie Richardson's debut poetry collection, What Us Is, and will be redesigning and publishing it under BCP in early 2020! This may be one of our slickest moves yet, and we're excited to bring What Us Is to wider audiences at independent bookstores across the PNW. Keep your eye out for this lil' beauty in late winter/early spring 2020, right around our THREE YEAR ANNIVERSARY PARTY WHICH WE HAVEN'T PLANNED YET BUT WILL BE AMAZING TRUST US.

We heard Jonah Barrett was pulling together a short story collection of queer, speculative fiction  and we immediately knew we wanted it. So, we went and got it (after much wine drinking and hugging in Olympia). Jonah's writing is heartbreaking, cringe-funny, and bitingly honest. We couldn't pass this one up. Expect to get your hands on Jonah's book around Halloween (come on, you saw that one coming). In the meantime, know that Jonah is a filmmaker in Olympia and makes a lot of cool/wierd stuff. Here's one of his latest creative works: The Tetrahedron.

Our fearless leader (okay maybe she's not fearless but she manages her anxiety alright), Christina Butcher, is writing a book of poetry. It's called Vega. It's about death, family dynamics, gender-fluidity and consciousness. She is terrified of marketing this book as both publisher and author, so be gentle with her as the year progresses. Most likely, Vega will launch in December, because nothing screams Christmas like death.

Stay tuned for more news on who and what we're publishing in 2020 in social media and at bluecactuspress.com!
