 Academic Year 2019/20  18/10/2019
Dear Parents

We've thoroughly enjoyed with you, your sons and daughters and our talented teachers this half term. We continually seek to strengthen and improve everything we are doing - from standards of teaching and learning and the quality of pastoral care, to the range of extra-curricular opportunities we offer, preparation for university, careers advice and communication with home - and always aim to offer the highest quality education.

Pupil Voice

You might be interested to know that we met with our Senior School Pupil Committee this week and were pleased to hear that they overwhelmingly approved of the developments in science and sporting facilities, the increased number of extra-curricular clubs and the new sporting activities on offer. Mrs Howard also met with Year 2 and Year 6 pupils and was delighted that both groups couldn't wait to tell her how much they love School!

We have also sought feedback from pupils across the age range about teaching and learning, and the results have been very interesting. Pupils report that they like to be challenged and to feel they are making good progress; they like structure and to be given clear guidance as how to improve; and overall they say they are enjoying their learning.

Parent and pupil surveys

After half term we will be sending out both parent and pupil surveys and we look forward to receiving any feedback which enables us to raise standards even higher at Bury Grammar School.

Pupil Portal

Also following the break we shall be launching our Pupil Portal which represents another important step regarding the pupil-home-school partnership and our communications.

University applications

Our Year 13s have put themselves in the strongest possible position regarding both their A Level studies and their future university courses by sending in their UCAS applications so early. Around three quarters of applications have been submitted, three moths ahead of the January deadline, which allows students to focus now on their all important A level work; as the offers come flooding in, this is of course also a huge boost to morale.  Many thanks to our fabulous Sixth Form Leadership Team and tutors and best of luck to our Y13s with their applications!

Thank you...

..for your support this term. We hope you enjoy the half term break and look forward to working with in the lead up to Christmas.

Best wishes
