 Academic Year 2019/20  06/09/2019
Dear Parents

Welcome to the Autumn Term 2019 and a very warm welcome to Bury Grammar School if you're a new parent. One of the best things about BGS is our community spirit and we very much look forward to working with you over the year ahead.

Term began in a very positive and uplifting manner yesterday and we were delighted to welcome so many bright-eyed and enthusiastic pupils into school. You can see some photos of the first day of term here.

Communication with home

You will receive this newsletter every week and we always aim to make it as useful and readable as possible. Good communication with you as parents is very important to us and we would always encourage you to get in touch with us if we can help in any way.

If you wish to discuss your child's progress, your son's/daughter's form tutor (Senior School) or class teacher (Junior/Infant School) is the person who knows them best and would normally be your first port of call. You can find more information about how to contact them in the letters attached within the relevant section of the School.

We're delighted to inform you of some exciting developments that will further improve  communications between School and home for the academic year 2019/20. Details of this can be found in our communication flyer here, a copy of which has been sent home with pupils this week.

Senior Leadership and Management Teams

In view of the fact that BGS is growing - we are bucking the trend for independent schools outside of London in that we are enjoying an ever increasing pupil roll - we have made certain changes to the Senior Leadership and Management teams in order to best support pupils and staff. Please find more information about the members of these teams here.

Outstanding examination results and university outcomes

You have probably already seen the stories on our website, social media and in the press this summer about our pupils' phenomenal successes at GCSE, A Level and in securing places at top universities. Please read more about this in the leaflet here; your son/daughter will be bringing a hard copy home tonight as well.

Bury Grammar School's 450th celebrations

In the reign of Elizabeth I, Henry Bury founded the school which was to become Bury Grammar School. We are immensely proud that, nearly 450 years on from that moment in 1570, BGS is still here, providing an excellent education to children in the area, thriving and evolving.

You child will come home today with a 450 key ring and a postcard about our very special anniversary. We look forward to telling you more about this in the weeks and months to come.

Our very best wishes for the term ahead,
