Founders Letter

As most of you know, the WGAE and WGAW voted unanimously earlier this week to approve a strike authorization if no labor deal can be reached before a May 1 deadline. For many of you, a shutdown of writers rooms and halt to hiring will have little effect on your day-to-day writing, strategizing, and self-starting—but the message is clear: value your work. Make time to tell relevant stories, improve your craft and create a community.

The Writers Lab founders will be at the Cannes Film Festival, speaking on the panel Between Ageism & Equality, on Friday, May 19th. We hope those of you who will be at the festival will attend the panel and stay to meet us afterward.

Peres Owino (TWL 2015) is happy to announce that she was once again a writer on African Queens on NETFLIXThe second installment—narrated by Executive producer Jada Pinkett Smith—has just dropped! 

Zuri Rice (TWL 2022) was selected for the WWFC Pilot Accelerator Program with her series Green Hill: a Manhattan socialite and small-town waitress—who share the same deceased ex—team up to save their families from ruin. Read about the program HERE.
Krystyna Łoboda (TWL 2019) is producing the Writers Showcase, an evening of virtual staged readings, excerpts of pilots and features from 10 European writers, at the South East European Film Festival on May 1st.  For more information, visit the SeeFest WEBSITE.

 The NYWIFT Ravenal Foundation Grant is proud to present four grants
that will support a woman feature film director and producer over 40 years of age in the production of a dramatic feature film. Two winners (a director and a producer) will receive $5,000 each and two runners-up (a director and a producer) will receive $2,500. Grant funds may be used for
pre-production, production or post-production. APPLY HERE.
