As you’ve heard, we’re taking a moment to honor the Maynard Institute’s 45th birthday. We were so pleased to celebrate with so many supporters like you at our reception last week at the National Association of Black Journalists and National Association of Hispanic Journalists conference.
As with any milestone, this birthday has us feeling reflective. We’ve been thinking about the Maynard Institute’s many successes over the years—and the ways we can continue to grow.
The team revisited a survey we sent out earlier this year to Maynard alumni and supporters. One of the questions we asked was what would inspire you to donate to Maynard Institute.
More than a third of you said that all we had to do was ask. Another third said they wanted to know why we needed the money. So we’re here today, doing both those things.
Just last month, we wrapped up our first in-person week of the Maynard 200 Fellowship. We brought together 57 media professionals—our largest cohort yet—and outstanding speakers from across the journalism industry. I took on the role of leading the fellows in the Frontline Editors and Managers group. For four days, we held sessions at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism, where our fellows built lasting connections and learned how to effectively advocate for more inclusive media coverage and newsrooms. It was an incredible kick-off to the year-long fellowship, and (let’s be honest) it wasn’t cheap.
We want to continue to train and inspire journalists for years to come. But we can’t do it without the support of people like you. If you’d like to help us celebrate 45 years of excellence, the best way to do so is by becoming a member of the Maynard family and making a donation today.
Doing so will help us continue to fight for a more diverse and inclusive journalism industry. In other words, it’s a gift that keeps on giving, which is the best kind of gift we can imagine.
What do you say? Will you join the party and become a Maynard member today?
