Happy Holidays and welcome to the Far North & CA Higher Education CalFresh Outreach Monthly Email. The purpose of this email is to provide CalFresh related information, upcoming webinars, and reminders.
Each year, California Food Policy Advocates’ (CFPA) CalFresh Forum brings together hundreds of key stakeholders from across the state to identify opportunities and discuss strategies to improve the reach and impact of CalFresh. Although not mandatory, we hope that many of you are able to join us on March 6, 2019. The Center for Healthy Communities, CalFresh Outreach (CFO) team will definitely be in attendance. Please let your CFO Program Manager know if you’ll be there so we can meet up at the CalFresh Forum. Staff and students are welcome to attend and in the past scholarships were awarded.

You likely budgeted attendance at this Forum and a second all-day CHC subcontractor convening which has been scheduled for March 5, 2019. More information regarding the second day convening will be coming in January.

I also wanted to let you know the “Freshy” Award Nomination period has opened. Do you know an administrator, outreach leader, campus leader, grassroots mobilizer, or elected official that should be nominated? Anyone can submit a nomination and I encourage you to add your county and program to the list. Questions, please reach out to your CFO Program Manager.
Upcoming Webinars:
GCF WebinarThe GetCalFresh.org application platform is now live in Los Angeles County! If you are a campus located in Los Angeles County (or have students that reside there), please join us on January 11th at 2 PM for this webinar tutorial. Los Angeles County Department of Social Services (DPSS) will be talking a little bit about the implementation, and then our partners at Code for America will be doing a tutorial on how to use the platform.

If you are in another county and are interested in GetCalFresh.org, you can still join this webinar! Please just keep in mind that it will have an LA County focus.

CalFresh Outreach DaysSpring will be here soon, and with it will come the perfect time to host a CalFresh Outreach Day! This webinar will cover the basics of a CalFresh Outreach Day, different event styles, planning and logistics best practices, promotional ideas and more! If you are a CSU campus, there is a system-wide CalFresh Outreach Day on February 27th, and this will help you set the stage for this day.

If you are an experienced CFO campus and you would like to share how your campus does a CalFresh Outreach Day, please reach out to us by responding to this email- we would love to include you as a presenter!

Social Media Work Group:
Social media continues to be the way that students, faculty and staff receive so much of their information, and it is a great tool to utilize for your CalFresh Outreach program! This is a continuing workgroup webinar, where we explore strategies and best practices around social media presence and promotion. This particular webinar will focus on promotion for CalFresh Outreach Days. If you would like to share your own campus’s strategies, please let us know by responding to this email.

As always, let us know if you have any questions!
