Huawei Malaysia in collaboration with Industry Relation Division (BHI), MOE and Centre of Knowledge Transfer and Industrial Networks (PIJI), UMT has organised Seed for the Future Talk on the 18th April 2019. This talk is an initiative from MOE and Huawei Malaysia to introduce the Seed for the Future Program 2019 at UMT.

The Seed for the Future Program is fully sponsored by Huawei Malaysia and will provide the selected students the opportunity of a comprehensive and real working experience in Beijing and Huawei’s headquarters in Shenzhen.
This programme is a global Community Social Responsibility (CSR) flagship programme. It is the most heavily invested CSR activity, and Huawei will continue to invest in this programme over the long term.

Initiated by Huawei in 2008, the programme seeks to develop local ICT talent, enhance knowledge transfer, promote a greater understanding of and interest in the telecommunications sector, also improve and encourage regional building and participation in the digital community.

Mr. Simon Ng, Senior Director of Public Relations Huawei Malaysia said, “This is their first year of collaboration with universities located in the east coast region especially with UMT and hoping many students from UMT will be preoccupied for the next “Future Seeds” and selected to undergo a two week study trip to China”.
A total of 160 final year students from Bachelor of Computer Science (Software Engineering) and Bachelor of Computer Science with Maritime Informatics participated in this talk.

In order to be selected in two-week study trip to China, those students with an academic background in Computer Science and Electronic Engineering must actively join the activities organised by Huawei Malaysia from time to time. Chances are given to students who have wide knowledge of Huawei Malaysia.

This is one of the industry-academia programmes that will help to boost the students’ employability skills and enable them to be fully prepared for the future. Thank you BHI and Huawei for an awesome experience.
Ramadhan, the holiest month that every Muslim looks forward to celebrate it every year, is known as a month of unity and reward for those who strive to worship Allah and do a lot of good deeds in the period.

This year, UMT Ramadhan Festival was organized as a platform to do good by holding the Fastabiqul Khairat campaign for the seventh year of its organization. In line with Surah Al Baqarah, the consistency of this campaign begins to show its effect when the number of donations increases every year.

This has been proven by the increment of the amount of food prepared from 15,000 pax in 2018 to 19,177 pax in 2019. The total amount collected this year (2019) was RM 123,000.00 compared to only RM 81,000.00 collected in 2018. The command of ‘Fastabiqul Khairat’ in the Al Quran has successfully practiced in UMT.  Donation received from various sources were distributed to orphanage and communities around UMT too. Research found that about 600- 800 students were very satisfied with the quality of services provided by Sultan Mahmud Islamic Centre (SMICE).
