Grace and peace to you from the C.A.R.E. Team!

NEW PROGRAM SUCCESS - A total of 41 adults and seven kids joined the first Love Every Neighbor - CARE Conversation on Indigenous Perspectives last month--thank you to all who joined us for pizza & conversation! We talked about loving our indigenous siblings by listening to their stories and cultural wisdom. Participants heard the voice and insights of indigenous botanist and author Robin Wall Kimmerer through a reading from her book Braiding Sweetgrass. Other topics included the reasons why many people are celebrating Indigenous People's Day instead of Columbus Day and local Potawatomi history and connections. We also talked about the definition and purpose of land acknowledgement statements--one way people remember, lament, and continue the work of healing the harms that have been done to native people in this country. Participants received this set of resources to help them follow up and learn more about indigenous perspectives. PRAISE GOD!
We all know it's hard to know the right words to say in every situation. But by paying attention to loving words we can use to share different perspectives, we can help uproot racism in our daily lives.  This feature is meant to help us all to get better at this practice.

THIS MONTH - ON COLORBLINDNESS
Perhaps you or someone you know has said one of these things:  "I don't see race," or "my children don't see color," or "things will only improve when we stop seeing the color of people's skin--we are all the same." Click here to learn more about finding the words around this topic.
