Dear <<First Name>>,

Good morning!

I know that January was a difficult month and we still have some tough weeks ahead but it is important that we recognise how far we have come and the records we are seeing each day with the vaccine programme, bringing us one day closer to normality.

January was a busy month all the same and we are currently seeing a lot of heavy rain which is affecting local river levels. I am in touch with the Environment Agency to keep updated on the situation which is affecting residents across the constituency.

I hope you enjoy my latest update and I very much hope it won't be too long before we can all get out and about again a bit more. However, in the meantime, please remember to continue to follow the public health guidance and to stay at home to help save lives and to protect the NHS.

Best wishes,

Kate Griffiths
Member of Parliament for Burton and Uttoxeter

Update on local vaccine rollout

Our local NHS and the Primary Care Network are doing a phenomenal job at getting the coronavirus vaccine distributed to local residents in the top four priority groups. Across the UK now over 8 million people have received their first dose and this number is increasing every day.

This past month I have also been raising the matter of securing a dedicated vaccination site for Uttoxeter and am pleased that a couple of weekends back the town's Racecourse hosted such a centre. That day, 2,500 people received their first dose - the largest daily total in Staffordshire to date. Well done to all the NHS staff and volunteers involved and all adds to the national effort!

Winter flooding season

It is that time of year when flooding is a possibility with more frequent forecasts of heavy rain. I have been in frequent contact with the Environment Agency (EA) over the past few week’s since weather forecasts predicted torrential rain and flood alert warnings were issued for the Rivers Dove and Trent.

Last Friday I met with the EA to update them on the issues and concerns residents have shared with me and to hear from them about the latest they are doing to protect our local communities against these weather events.

If you have been affected by flooding or are concerned about this issue then please do get in touch with me.
Keeping the pressure up on the Chancellor to support pubs

Earlier this month, I reiterated to the the Chancellor how important pubs and hospitality are to Burton and Uttoxeter’s local economy.I asked Mr Sunak, ahead of March's Budget, to keep future possible support in review to ensure their long-term survival and growth as the country looks to recover from the coronavirus pandemic.

In his response, the Chancellor gave me assurances that he would keep future possible support under review and added that he will do all he can to ensure that hospitality drives our economic recovery. I am pleased Rishi Sunak took on board what I said and I will continue to press Treasury colleagues ahead of the next Budget to back our pub and brewery sector.
