November 2018

Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, certain that God is appealing through us. We plead on Christ's behalf, "Be reconciled to God." He made the One who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
-2 Corinthians 5:20-21

ABA Baseball Volunteer Day

When work began on the indoor baseball facility the floor was concrete and the rafters stuck out like ribs around the building. Facility updates have continued to take place over the past couple of years. Last Saturday morning players, coaches and parents showed up at 8 a.m. to continue making the facility a place for the baseball players to practice in bad weather. A group of boys slung around paint rollers and jabbered instructions to one another. One of the parents quipped, "This is so good for them. They would never get to do this at home." The boys also expressed there gratitude and excitement about the new facility. "We are painting the primer now, but later it will be ABA blue!"
In the end it was more than a workday. It was a time of fellowship and community. Young boys learned the importance and reward of a job well done. Now when Nebraska weather decides to act up, they will get to use the facility they helped to renovate.
Thank you to the Cuciti's for allowing ABA to use their facility and for providing drinks and snacks. Thank you Tim Svoboda and Jeff Hirschbrunner for organizing the volunteer day. Finally, thank you to everyone who showed up to help with renovations. It was a great picture of God's people working together!

Soccer Season Recap with Jon Feauto

1) Defining moment
For me the defining moment was having 8 new girls join the program this year!  Having an opportunity to expand our outreach and God's plan for youth sports is very exciting.

2) How is God working
The girls now recognize His presence; post practice or prior to games they will say "Ok, let's pray!" before we go out.  For most of these girls this is a new experience for them.

3) Overcoming adversity
We had a game where a game winning goal was called back on a controversial play.  The girls displayed a very mature resiliency in moving to the next play.  By keeping a focus on Him and knowing He is in control of the results gives a certain amount of calm during those times.

4) Reflecting Christ
During our prayer huddles they always look around and make sure everyone comes in.  Coaches sometimes lead this but towards the end of the season they are taking the lead.  That's very heart warming to know God is making a difference.

Probably my most satisfying moment of the season is patiently waiting for each player to find their own time to lead prayer.  There is no pressure but by the end of each season the girls naturally become more comfortable around their teammates in doing this.  Sometimes it is 4-5 words and sometimes it is a deeply sincere glory to God.  Amazing!

Using apparel to spread the Gospel

Clothes can be great conversation starters. Many times I have been wearing a shirt with a verse on it or a phrase that points back to the gospel and someone will ask me what it means. This provides a perfect opportunity to share the gospel. When you wear your ABA gear use it as an opportunity to further God's kingdom and share his love with others.

Walk through this scenario with your family or team and practice how to respond in these situations.
A friend at school sees your shirt and asks, "What is ABA?"
At a tournament a parent from a different team asks, "What does ABA stand for?"

Memorize 2 Corinthians 5:20-21 together. When someone asks you about ABA you can point them to that verse.

Skills and practices have started! Pray that the players would sharpen their basketball skills and grow in Christ together.

Praise God for a great season of spiritual growth and the opportunity to become better soccer players!

The indoor facility looks great and will be a huge blessing during bad weather.
The Goal of Christian Athletes

(Basketball Week 1 Theme)
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.  - Romans 12:2
