2020 has been a challenging year for all of us. COVID-19 has drastically impacted how we live, work, travel, and socialize. It has also brought enormous changes to how we provide support, but it has not changed our motivations. Our focus at Home and Community Options continues to be the health, safety, and well-being of those we serve and our staff. We are committed to coming in to work each day to support our friends and neighbors with disabilities: 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Despite the struggles brought by COVID-19, Home and Community Options has been able to do some truly amazing things. We’ve been able to leverage technology to help those we serve access critical telehealth services from their own homes. We’ve created hundreds of events and activities that have been a source of joy and entertainment for many of our individuals who have been unable to return to work. We’ve been able to help people stay connected from afar – with loved ones, friends, and with each other. Yet, there is always room to do more. If you are passionate about our work, we hope you will consider a contribution towards sustaining HCO’s critical services.

Now and in the future, Home and Community Options will continue our efforts to move mountains in the lives of those we serve. Life will always throw us curve balls, but how we face these challenges – with grace, decency, and kindness – will be what defines our success. All of us at Home and Community Options wish you joy, happiness, and good health this holiday season.

Staff Spotlight: Derek Scott

When Derek Scott finished his double major in Geology and Environmental Science at Winona State University, he did what you might expect right after graduation: he got a job with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Though he did get to work on a trout stream restoration project, most of his job revolved around sitting in front of a computer working with maps day after day. At the time, Derek’s girlfriend was working as a Direct Support Professional...     Read More

Floor Coverings of Winona

This summer, Floor Coverings of Winona held a special promotion where a portion of the proceeds of flooring purchased was donated to Home & Community Options.

As a result of the generosity of Floor Coverings of Winona and their customers, $1,500 was raised for HCO! Thank you to Sam Quandahl and the rest of the Floor Coverings staff for their support of our organization!

Holiday Decorating

We had an amazing time decorating for the holiday season!
What sorts of decorations have you put up this year?

We love our employees and we are so thankful for their commitment to the individuals we serve. This past summer, we began a campaign to show extra appreciation to our staff through "Thankful Thursdays," where HCO staff can nominate each other when they see their coworkers go the extra mile in their work.

Check out our featured staff for November, who have been nominated by their peers (and whom we are especially thankful for) below. Congratulations!
Throughout the pandemic, our employees have continued to come in to work each day to provide critical care and support to people with disabilities throughout our agency. HCO staff are on the front lines caring for our friends, our neighbors, and our loved ones. This holiday season, you can give back to a Home and Community Options HERO by sending a special thank you gift to our staff or a program.
