Chicago Publishes Guidelines for Reopening Businesses

Mayor Lightfoot, in partnership with the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH), industry leaders, labor leaders, and public officials from around Chicago, released industry-specific guidelines on Tuesday for businesses, employees, and customers to follow as the city prepares to begin safely reopening in early June.

These guidelines include details such as how businesses can engage in healthy interactions between workers and customers; maintain safe working spaces and conditions; and design and monitor workplace operations to create flexibility and maintain safety for employees and customers. The guidelines are aligned with State-issued guidelines, with specificity included for Chicago.

Guidelines are available for the following industries, which will open the earliest in phase three in Chicago:
  • Education & Childcare
  • Buildings & Real Estate
  • Food Service
  • Accomodations & Tourism
  • Retail
  • B2B
  • Healthcare
  • Transportation

‘Pandemograms’ Public Art Project to Highlight Local Business Districts

The Beverly Area Arts Alliance invites small businesses to participate in an upcoming public art project designed to enhance and draw attention to various small business hubs in Beverly and Morgan Park through a fun, safe community event.

In difficult times, art gives expression to our individual and collective struggle, hope, longing, grief and gratitude. Pandemograms has that purpose, among others. It is a public art project created by the Alliance to foster points of connection between artists and community—and also to support our local economy by highlighting and activating small business hubs in Beverly and Morgan Park.
Working with community stakeholders, the Alliance will commission local artists to create displays in select business windows, bringing together business owners with artists based on goals, needs and availability. The Alliance will provide support to those who wish to embellish their own buildings. Each hub will be further enhanced with sidewalk chalk markings and window painting.
The Alliance also will take over a vacant storefront to create a site where community members can contribute their own messages to creatively bridge our physical separation. Families will be encouraged to go on a “window walk” to explore and engage with these locations as we look forward to the time when it is safe to again gather in our “Village in the City.”
Pandemograms will be an ever-changing exhibition, running from approximately June 15 to November 1, with some displays up for several weeks and others more briefly, based on the specific needs of the artist and business owner.
  • A Note on Safety: All aspects of this project maintain guidelines for social distancing. Artists and business owners who are experiencing symptoms or have been sick with Covid 19 are asked to refrain from direct participation. Artists will be asked to create this work at home with a brief allotment of time to install in each retail space.

Please reply to the survey below if you are interested in learning more about participating. You also are welcome to email Alliance co-creator and curator Sal Campbell,  the primary contact for this initiative.
