City of Chicago Extends all Business Licenses Set to Expire During Pandemic

Be advised that on July 22, 2020, the Chicago City Council passed Ordinance 2020-2915, a COVID-19 emergency-related measure to extend licenses that expire during the pandemic. Licenses and Emerging Business Permits issued by the Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (“BACP”) under Title 4 or Title 9 of the Municipal Code of Chicago (“MCC”) with an expiration date between March 15, 2020, and September 30, 2020 will hereby be considered active until October 30, 2020

Note that this ordinance does not change the fee for renewal nor prorate any fees paid for renewal of a license, nor change the future renewal date of a license. Within 30 days following the repeal of the ordinance on September 30, 2020, impacted licensees will be expected to pay the full fee associated with their license in order to renew. License renewal fees can be found in Chapter 4-5 of the MCC.
