95th Streetscape Project is Wrapping Up

We’re excited to share that our final walk through for the streetscape project on 95th Street will take place on Thursday, November 19, 2020. We expect the contractor to remove most of the remaining construction equipment from 95th Street following our walk through. Thank you for your patience as we work to enhance 95th Street!

Flippin Flavors Makes Tribune’s Takeout List

Congratulations to our very own Flippin Flavors for TWO recent mentions in the Chicago Tribune. Their Flippin Philly Steak Sandwich was featured in an Oct. 20 article titled “13 new sandwiches to take home today” and again on Nov. 5 in “Doing the Takeout Challenge? Here are 10 restaurants to order from”. Flippin Flavors is at 1848 W. 95th St. and is open Wednesday through Friday from 11 am to 6 pm, and Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm. 

New Carryout Competition Helps Restaurants Closed to Indoor Dining

Support our local restaurants with Takeout Tuesdays! Share a photo of your carryout meal on social media, and you’ll be entered to win a $20 "Bucks Stay Here" e-Gift card! The weekly giveaway is designed to boost business at our local eateries while they are closed to indoor dining.

Apply for $10K Hospitality Grants Now Through Nov. 23

The application window is now open for the Chicago Hospitality Grant Program, an emergency COVID-19 relief package for the hospitality industry. This $10 million grant program will award grants of up to $10,000 to independent bars and restaurants throughout Chicago that have been adversely impacted by COVID-19 and the State’s mitigation measures.

Police Issue Alerts After Robberies at Businesses

Two dry cleaning businesses were recently the victims of armed robberies. Detectives from the 22nd District Police Station are investigating and ask anyone with information to please contact them at 312-747-8273. They issued the recent alert with tips for business owners and employees for how to handle similar situations.

CPD Seeks Local Input on Plans for Crime Enforcement & Community Engagement

The Chicago Police Department is hosting an online ‘Community Conversation’ Nov. 24 to gather feedback from 19th Ward residents and business owners about crime enforcement and community engagement. All are welcome to attend.

BAC Expands Drive-Through Holiday Celebration 

Based on the positive community response,  Beverly Arts Center has added hours to its outdoor holiday event for Dec. 12 and 19. "Santa Sleighs the Holidays" is a drive-thru event featuring a full holiday light display, carolers, and a socially distant visit with Santa. Attendees can register for time slots between on both dates and remain in their cars for the duration of the event. Please see the attached flyer for details.
 
The BAC is inviting local businesses to participate in this event. Partnership opportunities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Providing a product, branded item or coupon for the "goody bags" that will be distributed to attendees;
  • Hosting a complementary event or offering a special promotion at your place of business that would be promoted via advertising, emails and the aforementioned goody bags (i.e., family meal specials at local restaurants for before/after the event)
  • Sponsoring the event with a donation.

Our House Launches 2nd Annual Toys for Tots Drive

Last year, Our House Wealth Advisors on 111th Street spearheaded a highly successful Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots drive. They distributed donation boxes to 65 businesses in the 19th Ward and collected almost 900 toys. The pandemic isn’t stopping them from doing it again. Our House has donation boxes that they will begin delivering November 5, and the drive will run through December 9.

One gift card for all our great local businesses? We’re making it happen with “The Bucks Stay Here”!  We now have 50 businesses signed up to accept the virtual card, which can be keyed in manually like a credit card. 

If you’ve signed up, be sure to run your activation transaction sent via email from our partner Yiftee. Then let your employees know about it, to avoid any confusion. We’ll also send you materials to display inside your location.

19th Ward Hosts Holiday Super Raffle

Alderman Matt O’Shea’s office is organizing a raffle contest to benefit 40 local businesses during the holiday season. The promotion includes cash prizes and big giveaways, like a car or pizza for a year. Tickets are $10 and are on sale now through Dec. 18!

City Offers Individual Artists Program Grant Opportunity

Local artists are invited to apply for grant funds through  the Individual Artists Program now through December 1. This program assists practicing artists in creating work that develops their craft, elevates their careers, and adds to the cultural vitality of Chicago. The average grant award from this program last year was approximately $4,000.
