As a business owner in Beverly/Morgan Park, you are invited to participate in a free day of professional development at the Main Street Now Conference on Tuesday, April 13. The conference is offering a special education track that day with content tailored for small business owners— from live, interactive sessions with retail experts to a happy hour with fellow entrepreneurs. Plus, all of the sessions will be recorded if you can’t attend on April 13.

While conference registration can cost as much as $149, small business owners in Main Street America/Urban Main districts can register for free through March 22! You can learn more about Small Business Day and the content being offered here, but I’ve also included some of the names of sessions you’ll have access to below:
  • What Brick & Mortar Stores Need to Know About Being Online
  • Small Business Marketing: Three Ways to Increase Customer Engagement for Physical Storefronts
  • Shifting Your Business Model: Five Marketing Strategies to Reach Customers Despite the Challenges of COVID-19

In the Payment section, enter the Coupon Code SB2180 and hit “apply.” Your registration should then be $0, and you can hit “submit” to complete your registration. Please don’t share this code with businesses outside of our district.

I think this will be a great opportunity for small business owners in our district, and I hope you can attend!

Join Our Local Rotary Club

The recently formed Beverly Morgan Park Mt. Greenwood Rotary Club is looking for members!

Rotary is an international service organization whose stated purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian service and to advance goodwill and peace around the world. It is a non-political and non-religious organization open to all.  There are over 35,000 member clubs worldwide, with a membership of 1.2 million individuals, known as Rotarians.

Rotary was founded by Beverly resident Paul Harris in the early 1900s. His home at 10856 S. Longwood Dr., shown above, is being restored by Rotary International. The group would like to eventually hold their meetings in this beautiful, restored home on the hill.

Meetings are currently held virtually on the second and the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6 pm.

Message from Chicago Streets & Sanitation

The following information is from John F. Tully, commissioner of Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation.

Chicago is a world-class city, home to myriad vibrant communities in which we work and live. To maintain the beauty of our city and keep our neighborhoods clean, we need the support of our residents and businesses.

For your convenience, below is an outline of the general sanitation laws that apply to Chicago businesses. We ask your cooperation in complying with the following:
  • Sidewalks and exterior areas must be kept clean, free of weeds and all litter. Outside areas adjacent to the premises must be kept clean, neat and monitored daily. (4-4-310)
  • Snow and ice must be removed from sidewalks in front of and adjacent to all buildings housing places of business. (4-4-310)
  • Arrange for refuse to be removed by a licensed scavenger service. (7-28-310)
  • Have sufficient containers to hold all garbage. All commercial dumpsters must have information prominently displayed on the exterior identifying the user of the dumpster and the scavenger company servicing it. (7-28-220)
  • Check the dumpster area often. Dumpsters must be in good condition properly sealed and not leaking. Garbage must be contained with lids closed and locked. (7-28-210)
  • Use and maintain a clean grease box. Grease must be properly contained with the walls and ground around the container clean at all times. (7-28-302)
  • Burrows and openings must be sealed, and dock areas must be well baited to promote rodent control. (7-28-660)
Thank you for your attention to these important regulations and cooperation. If you have any questions, please contact Courtney Bryson with Neighborhood Services at the Department of Streets of Sanitation at 312.743.0256 or by email at Courtney.Bryson@cityofchicago.org.
